Biography

Gregg remembers the first time he heard bluegrass music blaring over the loudspeakers in a warehouse where he picked, packed and shipped for a record company in the early 90’s. He immediately searched out a banjo and learned to play it while performing in the subways and squares of Boston, Mass. Already with an accomplished background in blues and classical guitar, Gregg was able to merge his love and mastery of those styles of music.
In ’95 he moved to NM to continue his quest to find the kindred spirits of Duane Allman and Bela Fleck. Today he performs with one of the most accomplished bands in the Southwest. Chris Plourde, who has worked with Gregg since his days in Massachusetts, sings and plays keyboard and guitar. Colin Deuble, who plays upright bass, is on a first call basis with top tier NM jazz musicians. Carlin Venaglia on drums has an impressive resume due to his extensive tenure in Los Angeles and currently runs a music school in Corrales, NM.

  *Altamont be damned, on Dig the Stars, New Mexico’s Gregg Daigle Band traverses roosty Americana clo...*Altamont be damned, on Dig the Stars, New Mexico’s Gregg Daigle Band traverses roosty Americana closer to the Grateful Dead than the Stones. Lead cut “Constant Sorrow” finds some serious musicians taking a traditional tune for a ride with a haunting arrangement. Throughout the album Daigle tears it up on guitar in a laid back fashion, often not breaking a sweat before trading off to Greg Overman’s sax. Another Daigle original “The Ghost of New Orleans” offers up a nice groove that flashes with brilliance.
  With the instrumental “Flextone” Daigle draws the curtain and reveals a bit of himself, never showing off but with understated chops to spare. Stars is a fine batch of rootsy tunes, but here Daigle digs in again with Overman, setting the Dead influence aside and strutting ala Little Feat or The Band. A rich cover of “I Wonder Where You Are Tonight” is a very cool song to end the album.
