Husslin' - catchy hook, more of a radio feel to it..with the right backing, this can definitely earn itself some radio spins..more mainstream, but thats not a bad thing 'cause i'd call this good mainstream music..the beat is a banger..
Mo Bread - This beat is hot as well..you got a good ear for beats homie..this is a bit darker which i like..great overall sound to it.. "this young black man made it out the park like hank aaron" = thats a dope ass line..
Feels Good - real catchy..the whisper-like voice..same thoughts here as husslin..with the right backing, this can get some radio play..

We talk about the current state of hip hop, his new single, Not 2 Day, his upcoming album, Black Market and much more so check it out.
Illuminati 2G is here with Tek how's it going?
Just chillin, how are you?
Good. Tell me a little bit about how you got your start in music and who are some of your musical influences out there?
Pretty much how I got my start in music, I got my start in high school, writing poetry for class, creative writing. Over time it just turned into rhymes and the poetry just turned into lyrics and I always liked rap music so I decided to just try it one day in 2000. I was in the 10th or 11th grade, that is really when I tried recording and stuff like that. My influences are Jay-Z, Nas, Busta Rhymes, 2pac, Biggie, just pretty much the classic hip hop. Music with meaning.
Tell me a little bit about the music scene where you are from in Michigan? What is the music scene like in Michigan right now?
You have 2 different scenes as far as hip hop goes. At least to me in my eyes. You have the traditional...., well they are both kind of traditional, so I should not say one is more than the other, but you got the K-Deezy and the Eastside Chedda Boyz, Detroit street music. Then you have the J. Dilla, Black Milk, Slum Village, more soulful, Motown type hip hop. That is pretty much how the scene is. It is one or the other when it comes to hip hop around this way in Michigan.
You have a new single that hit the net called Not 2 Day, tell me a little bit about how that single came together for you.
Ok no doubt. That is my boy from Montreal, Young Blaze, he produced that. He is pretty much the producer that I work with. He is my right hand man and I work with him the most, so when I started to work on this project, I reached out to him first. He goes to school at the same time so the beats come slow but he shopped me some beats and the beat for this song happened to be last years beats. But to me they are brand new, so that is how that first song came along. That beat was in the first batch of beats he sent. It was also one of the first songs that I recorded for the album. It ended up being a good fit for the first single. Because it is just me on the song and I feel that the hook is very catchy. It gets stuck in people's head pretty quick.
The single is from your debut album, Black Market that is getting ready to drop soon. Is there any details you can give about the album, guests, producers, release date?
It is set to release in August. I am going to start off just locally in a couple Best Buys but as far as online it will be available worldwide. Through CD Baby, I-Tunes, Napster and all of the usual digital distribution stores. As far as features, I got a few pretty nice names..., let's just say that they are nice features but we still in negotiations right now. I am going to try and not get too heavy on features but I will have a few on there. As far as hometown people though I know my boy J-Hustle, he is out of Pontiac, Michigan. Besides that there will be a couple people on there that are worth checking out for sure.
Ok, you can keep that under wraps it's no problem. What are your thoughts right now on the state of hip hop? You happy with the music that is coming out, you think it is alot of BS, just what is your personal thoughts on the music?
Honestly I watch how I give my opinion on that because people like to judge on you like you talking bad on it. I respect everything, everybody does their own thing. As far as what the radio is playing and all the videos right now, I think it is one sided to the 100% commerical songs that are just based on a gimmick or a dance. It is really one sided as far as that goes, I don't think there are alot of songs that have alot of substance. Everything is a dance or whatever the new fad is. I don't think that the music is saying anything that the people can relate to.
By the way I did not mean that question to come off as a loaded question or anything like that. I always ask people what their thoughts are on it. My personally I think that music is starting to get back more towards lyrics. I think that whole dance craze is starting to die out and you are starting to see alot more meaningful songs. You may not see him as far as singles or videos on BET or MTV though, but I always ask people just about the music that is out. Nothing personal against a particular rapper or anything so I hope that question did not come off like that to you.
Nah fo sho. I just know that is a touchy thing, but I know you did not mean it like that. I agree though too, all the fads are starting to die out. But I see that people do not want to let it go, but it is looking like hip hop is coming back so I can see it.
What are some albums you may have bought or picked up online the last couple weeks or could be a old school album, that you have been bumping right now that you have been feeling alot lately? At the house or in the Ipod?
I am always banging J Dilla, the old J Dilla. I can't remember what Slum Village was called back in the day. I bump him all the time and Slum Village. As far as new cats, I like that cat Blu out of California. That cat Jay Electronica, I heard some songs from him lately that sound kinda ill. But nothing really in particular. I don't listen to alot of music nowadays that much. I like to listen to 90's hip hop alot as far as my inspiration.
Do you have any upcoming shows or tour dates you got coming up in the near future that you want to let the people know about?
Pretty much as far as tours and shows, I am going to be holding off on that till the next calendar year. I am going to finish up in the studio and doing promotion for the album and stuff like that. I am going to make sure that is all set in motion before I go on tour, but definitely after that I will have plenty of shows all over Michigan and probably over in Canada too. I am definitely going to focus on the whole Midwest region after this next year or so.
Do you have a label situation or are you currently doing the indie thing?
I'm independent. The label name is Organized Rhyme Entertainment. I am really just trying to......, unless the right deal comes along and presents itself, I would rather just stay independent and just get distribution and do it that way. That is how I feel is the best way. So that is my situation right now as far as the label goes.
What is your myspace or website information for people looking to check out your music?
www.myspace.com/tekneekkotp. You can look it up at tekneek3@yahoo.com that is the email you can look up the page for myspace with. If you have any questions about buying music or anything like that, you can email me at rawsoundz08@gmail.com. As far as buying music, everything is available on the page and all the contact information is there as well.
Well that is all the questions I have for you, appreciate you getting down for the interview. Is there any last words or shoutouts you want to get out there to the people?
Look out for the album. I put alot of hard work into this one and it is the best one yet. I am just eager to see how everyone accepts it. I just appreciate the love and you giving me the interview.
Not a problem man, appreciate the interview.
Aight bro.

Posted: Thursday - June 4, 2009
Tekneek is a young aspiring artist who grow up and lived his whole life in Port Huron, Michigan. He got songs up his sleeve and a mic in his hand to give you the proof that he is a promising newcomer who is able to breakthrough. With this being said, his hopes and aspirations are becoming a reality with each increasing hour of his career. With a solid team behind him and the talent to suffice, he is poised to make a solid impact in 2009. Get familiar!
Growing up in Port Huron, Michigan you developed a passion for all styles of music, specifically the Motown sound. Today, how has this influenced your music pursuit?
Well my whole family listened to all the Motown artists, so that's all I heard around the house. When I started listening to hip hop it was J Dilla and Slum Village, Black Milk... more soulful sounding Hip-Hop. I adapted to the sound myself when I started writing and recording.
You're currently working on your debut CD, Black Market. What's the current status on it?
I'm going back in the studio within the week. I'll be about 9 songs deep in to the album after this session. Overall as far as the number of songs to expect on the album it will be anywhere from 11-15 songs , no fillers.
You're planning to bring back Hip-Hop with feeling, meaning and substance. Tell us exactly why you feel there's a lack of these attributes in Hip-Hop?
I think a lot of artists these days specifically young new rappers that are coming out. They are concentrating on making the next fad and dance too much. They forget what Hip-Hop was built on. In the 90's, it was about giving the listener something they could feel. Now it seems the personal feeling is gone from the music.
You tend to concentrate on making music that is true and that reflects your life experiences. Why is that?
I never wanted to be perceived as something I'm not. So early on in my career I decided to tell it how I see it exactly, holding nothing back. So when somebody listens to my music they can relate that much more because I might speak on my situation and experience that was the same as they had.
Also, you select songs that people can often relate to almost as if you read their mind. Tell us more about this.
I try to bring a variety of different concepts to the table when creating an album because I know the more of my life I share the more people will hear it and feel as if I read their mind.
May we ask what inspired the stage name, Tekneek? What's the meaning behind it?
Well I started out as Tekneek back in high school in 1999. I named myself that way because I felt it described my style well because I'm very technical when it comes to putting together a song, and life in general.
Your new single, Not 2 Day off the new Black Market album sends out a message to anybody trying to keep you down, judge you, or hold you back. Why the special dedication? [Laughs]
Honestly that song is directed towards the world and the industry. If you listen to the lyrics I'm describing my current image and how the industry judges me from it and puts me in a stereotype. I also speak on attempting to fit the mold but then deciding to be who I am. That's what the song is about, being who I am not compromising for fame or recognition.
When is the new album dropping? Should we look forward to any familiar appearances?
The album is dropping in August and I will have a few known names on there with me. Haven't finalized the business yet so I can't say exactly who, but lets jus say they are all well known and from the Midwest for the most part.
How different will the new album be compared to your previous ones, Organized Rhyme, The Definition, Lost Muzik, and Vinyl Heaven?
I went with a much bigger sound. I wanted everything to sound high impact for the most part. In the past, I stuck to doing all soulful, rugged sounding Hip-Hop which will always be in my heart as my favorite style. But for a Black Market you can expect synths and huge drums, heavy basslines.
Getting personal now... what do you dislike most about the music industry, and why?
It's to judgemental everybody has an opinion of how somebody should sound or look. There is a lack of respect for originality, which encourages artists to be copycats in my opinion. I hate that.
Where do you see your music career 5 to 10 years from now?
I just want to be doing shows, performing for packed houses and make a living off of what I love to do most... that's all.
Where can your fans find you online? Is there a live link to your music?
People can check out my official MySpace page at www.myspace.com/tekneekkotp.
Yo! Raps wish you all the best. Be sure to visit us again. Have any last words, panda? Tell us what we don't know.
Thanks for the interview! It means a lot. As for what you don't know, I worked on this album for a whole year and a half... takes time to make a future classic.

The underground is hard place to navigate around. There are snakes everywhere and the wrong move could take you to a places that you don’t want to be. You have to have direction and good people around you if you want to make it to the end.
Tekneek has the right combination to make it to that next level. The Michigan native has built a buzz for himself through the internet, cementing his name as a top notch emcee on the rise.
Wordonthestreetsmag.com talked Tekneek about his career, his music and what makes him different than other emcees out today.
Wordonthestreetsmag.com How did you get into hip-hop? When did you know that this would be your career?
Tekneek: I always excelled in writing classes back in high school, and I enjoyed writing poetry a lot . At the same time I also listened to a lot of hip hop this was around 1997-98 there cam a time when i felt i wanted to go beyond the poetry and say something the world can hear. that’s when i knew.
Wordonthestreetsmag.com Describe your style for those who haven’t heard you yet.
Tekneek: music with meaning, lyrics about my life and my experiences. I make music the listener can relate to, but I also keep it versatile as possible , different subjects , concepts etc.
Wordonthestreetsmag.com: Who are some of the artists that you came up listening to?
Tekneek: 2pac, Big, Jay, Nas, Busta Rhymes, The Wu , Big Pun.
Wordonthestreetsmag.com: Talk about your name. It sounds like you take your rhymes serious
Tekneek: My main name is Tekneek I named myself that in 1999 or so, I felt it described my flow well because I write and record every song with a certain process and I’ve always wrote lyrics with a lot of wordplay real “technical”.
Wordonthestreetsmag.com: Talk about your music. What do you have out right now, and what should we be on the look out for?
Tekneek: I got a few “mixtapes” in the streets right now, about 4 to be exact. organized rhyme 2005 , controlled substance 2006 , lost music 2005-2008 , the definition 2007, all available on www.datpiff.com free
download search “tek”.
As for upcoming projects I’m dropping my first official album “Black Market” this August via select Best Buy stores
and Cd baby, itunes. This upcoming album I guarantee is my best by far, I put my life into the “Black Market” album.
Wordonthestreetsmag.com: what’s your opinion of hip-hop right now? And where do you feel like you fit in?
Tekneek: for the most part i feel like a lot of people aren’t saying much as far as “substance” is concerned in my opinion. i feel the game is lacking realness its too much about fads or dances. So that’s where I fit in I
think the people wanna hear something they can relate to and at the same time the production is CRAZY!!!
Wordonthestreetsmag.com: What are you doing out of the country? Are you doing shows? What the scene like where you’re at?
Tekneek: I been in Toronto Ontario for the past year or so writing and recording my new album. The music scene is big down here a lot of super talented producers in the area. no shows as of yet I’ve been concentrating 100% on putting together the album.
Wordonthestreetsmag.com: What do you feel like you bring to the game that’s missing currently?
Tekneek: Real music period. That’s what hip hop is to me , fresh sound (as far as production) and true heartfelt lyrics. that’s what I bring.
