Biography

In an age of electro-pop, over-produced, indie rock, Twin Berlin rebels against the passing fad to bring the revival of no-frills, in-your-face rock and roll. And 2011 is about to be their year.

In 2009, Twin Berlin was recognized by MTV, being nominated as the Best Breakout Boston band and playing a show on the 2009 VMA tour alongside All Time Low and The White Tie Affair. Consequently, Twin Berlin was launched into Comcast’s “On Demand” air time, and into rotation on Boston’s biggest indie/alternative radio station, WFNX. Just two months later, Twin Berlin conquered the Big Apple, as well, for the CMJ Music Marathon.

By 2010, Twin Berlin had broken out against the conventional indie-dance circuit, earning a reputation for a rabid, powerful live show. Garnering attention from the local press, Boston Music Spotlight named Twin Berlin as one of the eleven bands to watch for in 2011. They couldn’t have been any closer to the truth.

While recording new material in the studio (2011) Mikey Welsh, formerly of the band Weezer, stepped in to create the cover art. But, before the recordings could even be finished, Travis Barker of Blink-182 became involved and selected Twin Berlin as the winner of Guitar Center’s “Your Next Record”, inviting them to record with him in Los Angeles.

Twin Berlin released There Goes My Virtue (produced by Travis Barker) in February 2012. The EP features the single “Can’t Take, Take, Take” and was released to rave reviews. The band continued on a 90s surge in the summer of 2012 playing alongside Third Eye Blind, Spin Doctors, Switchfoot and Eve 6 at Radio 929's Earthfest at the Hatch Shell in Boston.

My reply was simple: "Be awesome." As I've stated in the past, I listen to every CD I get sent to my desk at the Herald, and it doesn't matter how fancy-pants expensive and shiny your kit is. All that matters is that your music intrigues.
  
  Case in point: NYC garage rock boys Twin Berlin, who sent me their twin-single deftly wrapped in Connecticut newspaper. I put it in, and it floored me. Now they're playing the pill on Aug. 21 (ironic, though, since now I can't write about the gig -- but certainly others will).
  
  Both songs are lethal. "Pretty From The Window" has a fierce Libertines guitar-led dance romp (as well as a great song title) and "Fake It Well" is a super-cool Stroke-paced ballad with equally keen lyrical play and melodic drift.
