As music becomes increasingly segmented due to higher demand for inventive design, true enjoyment can often play second fiddle to innovation. A sound or style that is familiar to the music world may be overlooked due to this very fact. As a result, uniqueness frequently takes precedent over wide appeal.
However, the 4-piece band known as August Rising are consistent with their refreshing hooks. Their music is honest and simple yet emotionally fed. Not to be misunderstood, it’s their way of creative expression that doesn’t have to rely on obscurities to become noticed. The band is well aware of their appeal and embraces it thoroughly, as opposed to fearing the almighty pigeonhole.
August Rising’s self-titled debut encompasses the youthful energy of Lifehouse crashing into the airy structure of Goo Goo Dolls, topped off with a dash of funk-driven Maroon 5 guitar licks. Front-man Jeff Stauning croons about adoration and its many ups and downs. He communicates his straight-forward message with brawny force, providing an ideal contrast to the illuminating subject matter. Lead-guitarist Jarod "JemTone" Woznik (JJ Woznik), a former student of Kenny Lee Lewis (Steve Miller Band), provides the driving melody of the band. Touring/Session Bassist & Drummer construct the band’s sturdy rhythm section.
Los Angeles radio powerhouse, *98.7 FM, formerly interviewed Jeff on-air after spinning “Lay Your Hands on Me” during the morning show with DJ Valentine. Valentine enthusiastically stated, “I’ve been in the music business now for 15 years, and I can tell you, this song is a hit”. Since this encounter, August Rising has been dedicated to exposing their enjoyable sound to a broader audience.
In response to the barriers that often separate the artist from the fan, “We like to remain very reachable and really try to create a great relationship with them...we also try to create a deeper meaning to keep people involved and interested beyond just a catchy chorus.” The humble, straightforward attitude of August Rising only adds to their musical charm: something to soon be embraced by the world.

Few artists on the LA scene have influences as diverse as August Rising, and it shows in the finer nuances or their freshman album. The first time I heard their local hit Lay Your Hands On Me, I was shocked to see a small constellation of goosebumps raising the individual hairs on my arms. To put it succinctly, their sound is nothing short of inspired.
Clearly this group has a great chemistry and diversity, and it shows in the music. I have to agree with Jeff; it really is amazing who you do and don’t let in, and this applies to the music we know and love as well as the people. I think it is safe to say that if you decide to let August Rising into your musical world, you will enjoy getting to know them as much as I have.

The band has eight Top 10 finishes, including their song “And I Will” which won first place in March on the Indie Rock Channel. But, considering 4 of their songs placed in December’s Top 10 on the Soft Rock, Premium “Artists on the Verge,” Modern Rock and Acoustic Channels, the band can really fit in to just about any rock genre they choose. Besides playing shows in their native California, the August Rising has been approached to open for some major established artists on upcoming tours. The band has worked diligently to surround themselves with a great team of people working to make their success a reality. By utilizing social networking, the band has begun reaching out to over 30,000 fans across multiple platforms. Jeff (vocals/guitar) had this advice to offer to other bands: “We’ve really learned over the past year how important the whole idea of ‘who you know’ in this industry really is. We don’t look at who we know as a substitute for hard work, but rather taking advantage of opportunities when they’re given.” Take a listen to some of their songs below and keep an eye on this ever-evolving band!
