"I'm very impressed with 'Everyday Forever' and I see a lot of potential in this band." -- Ron Nevison, Producer / Engineer (The Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, The Who)
"If commercial radio were a bit more willing to take risks, Silk Tongue Gamblers would be a perfect ad. They are a break or two from the big stage, as their sound and approach are a music marketer's dream" -- Wildy's World
With the release of their first EP "We're in Business", Silk Tongue Gamblers have thrown down the gauntlet. The challenge of course, is now for them to make the world sit up and listen to the raucous and exhilarating music this four piece are making.
Having first met at college, Varun (Vocals), Felipe (Guitars) and Ollie (Drums) could never have thought they would play in a band together. They admit now that they always appreciated each other's talents but it's hard to imagine a Ben Harper fan getting pissed on a Friday night with someone that loves Trent Reznor and thinking "Hang on a minute, want to form a band?" Varun says, "Felipe loves Hendrix, Tom Waits and the Stones while I'm more of a NIN, Tool, Alice in Chains kinda guy, so you can imagine how different we are musically. At the same time, it's what makes our collaboration so fresh."
Classically trained percussionist turned rock drummer Ollie Hipkin left his hometown of Maidenhead at the age of 17 with more skill than most drummers twice his age. Influenced by the likes of Dave Grohl, Joey Castillo and Rob Ellis, Ollie's solid playing defines the sound of the band.
Unknown to each other until they moved to London, Junior (Bass) and Felipe are both from Porto Alegre, a bustling city in the south of Brazil. Fate brought them to London where they realized they had more than just their hometown in common. Felipe recalls, “We are very close friends and we used to hang out and listen to the Black Crowes, Funkadelic and Neil Young all the time. It was blindingly obvious that we needed to play together.”
Since their formation in 2009, Silk Tongue Gamblers have been putting in copious amounts of work gigging and writing new material, as a result of which things are moving really quickly for the band. With a growing fanbase that love to sing along to their accessible, catchy songs, 2010 presents a whole host of opportunities with new tunes and a bunch of festivals to be confirmed for the summer.
