Jason Watson's mission statement says it best. His passion is "...to make Jesus real to both believers and non-believers, to revitalize & unify the church, & to 'rock out' while worshiping our amazing God." At its core, Jason senses his calling is to take the church outside of itself, getting down and dirty with those that are truly lost. By removing the barriers that Christians often use to separate themselves from each other, Jason encourages the church to unify under one compassionate, almighty God for the good of those who desperately need to hear of His love. The heart of this rocker beats for no other mission.
Jason shares his thoughts about his calling. "Christ said we are to take up our cross and follow Him. This is a sacrifice. With my family's encouragement, I am making the appropriate sacrifices for the ministry I'm called to do. If we are all called to be more Christ-like, then we're not called to 'play it safe'. We're called to step out in faith and trust that God will lead the way. There are so many in this world that are counting on it."
Jason was honored with the KCCM 2008 Live Performer of the Year Award. His new song, "Step Into the Light", was released to radio in May 2009 and has received tremendous response hitting #1 on CRW's Global Rock Chart as well as Top 10 for Global AC and CHR while getting airplay on near 100 stations nationwide and throughout the world. His second release, "I Am Here", is set to hit radio in August 2009.
Yes, Jason knows what it means to be incredibly busy, but he also keeps his calling at the forefront of his mind. Jason continues, "With a wife and two kids, there is a lot to balance. However, I'm blessed to have an incredible wife who believes in me and my God-given call, and my kids are my absolute biggest fans. I couldn't ask for any greater reason to serve."
Fresh from the studio in Nashville and ready to set his band to touring, there is no doubt that Jason Watson has only just begun. So whether it be on the road or through the airwaves, he's coming "to a backyard near you". And when he does, do yourself a favor. Watch and listen!

Jason Watson, of Lee's Summit, Missouri fits the mold of the current Christian Radio hitmaker. Writing soaring pop/rock that sounds much like Jeremy Camp, Casting Crowns, or a younger version of Steven Curtis Chapman, Watson hits all the right notes, without being a carbon copy of any other artist. Produced by the folks at Zodlounge, this EP is a great, though small, taste of what radio programmers are looking for in the Christian market. The song "He Chose Me" is my personal favorite, a power pop anthem with a hook that would be great to sing along to in the car. I am really looking forward to hearing more from Jason Watson, though I need more than three songs on a record to put this in the Indie Spotlight. - Rob Tyson, 9/12/09

Christian Rock for Joplin

The independent rock scene and venues across the KC area and beyond are doing everything they can to help. One genre of music that us here at Project Backstage do not touch on much is the Christian Rock genre, which is something that we should do more along with others.
For those that do not like the “bar scene”, the heavy rock music, or the fact that many of these benefits are not attached to a specific organization, Lakeland Community Church in Lee’s Summit is holding a benefit this Sunday evening with some of the best Christian Rock artists in the area. Regardless of your faith beliefs, 99.9% of the time that a benefit is attached directly with a church you can assure the intentions for the benefit are pure and your donations will get exactly where they are intended.
Lakeland Community Church has teamed up with Heart to Heart International, and dloWater to streamline the money raised directly for the Joplin efforts. 100% of all money raised will be used for the efforts. Starting at 5:30pm the performances will start with Break the Fall, one of the top young Christian rock bands in the mid-west. Second will be Revolution, a Christian Rock group that mix influences from the 70's & 80's with a modern twist, and finally the Jason Watson Band which is one of the top Christian Rock groups in the area that is no stranger to the Christian Rock charts.
As stated earlier in the article, there are so many benefits and it is hard to choose which ones to pick and promote. For those that enjoy Christian Rock, this benefit is by far the top of the food chain when it comes to entertainment and talent on the stage. If you need more information you can contact the Lakeland Community Church at (816) 554-0929. They are located in Lee’s Summit, MO at 913 NE Colbern Rd (64086).
Set list can vary based on venue and target audience. We do mostly originals, but throw in a few covers or worship tunes. With our covers, we arrange the songs to meet our southern rock style.
