Biography

"Jerry Stamp is releasing five albums this year - what are you doing?" -The Scope Magazine

"Excellent songwriter. And without question the best singer on the island (of Newfoundland) today" -Chris Batstone, Assistant Program Director 97-5 K-Rock

"What is truly impressive about Stamp is his impressive vocal abilities and his heartfelt songwriting" -Kevin Kelly, The Newfoundland Herald

Singer/songwriter Jerry Stamp started performing in his home town of St.John's Newfoundland at the tender age of 13. Eventually he got a Bachelor of Classical music degree and subsequently ran off to tour Canada with his band King Nancy. They lived in Toronto for four years making a lot of in-rods before heading home to St. John's where he began spending most of his time focused on his solo career and producing. Jerry has been compared to Glen Hansard of the Swell Season, Ryan Adams and The Tallest Man On Earth.

Jerry has shared the stage with a varied list of artists such as Broken Social Scene, Sam Roberts, Amelia Curran, Matthew Barber, Arkells, Hey Rosetta! and Pilot Speed (formerly known as Pilate) to name a few. Still balancing King Nancy and his solo career, Jerry played almost 150 shows last year across the country, has showcased at COCA, ECMA, CMW, NXNE, JUNOFest and any other acronyms that would let him. In 2009 he recorded and released five records. Several of those records have earned him two 2011 ECMA nominations (for best Rock and Rising Star) and won him a MusicNL award....Yep! Jerry does not have a social life.

Setlist

I don't use a preplanned setlist anymore. I have a list of songs that I can rely on if need be but usually I feed off the vibe of the room. If it feels mellow and slow then that is what I play, If it is more rockin' then that is what I play. I rarely do covers but some that I have been known to play have been 'Joga" by Bjork, 'Last Goodbye' and 'Lilac Wine' by Jeff Buckley, or even 'Angel' by Aerosmith.
