Biography

The world has seen its share of great musicians but few like Blu Lyon. A few years ago he was just a hopeful producer and recording artist whereas is father, Super Blue, and sister, Fayann Lyons, had already established themselves in the music industry. They both, along with his brother-in-law Bunji Garlin, have had significant success which would led some to think that Blu’s musical journey was an easy one, but that is far from the truth. His endeavors have been plagued with much disappointment and missed opportunities.
However, all his obstacles are beginning to take a backseat to the momentum he is now building as a recording artist. In 2010 his recording of ‘Poor No More’ spread virally catching the ear of many international music lovers and creators. His current single, ‘Open Wide’, is following the same path receiving spins on numerous radio stations across the U.S and other countries such as England, Portugal, Jamaica & Costa Rica due to the high quality of his work and rigorous promotion.
In the summer of 2011, Blu released the mixtape ‘Big Business’ which is a preview to the album he is currently recording with Beatmania Productions. While working on expanding his growing fan base, Blu has done opening performances for Collie Buddz, Natural Blacks, Frisco Kid, Supernatural, Funkmaster Flex and has produced music for Mr. Easy, Mega Banton, Merciless, Vybz kartel, Teflon, Determine, Yami Bolo and many others. He has also been featured in publications such as Skope magazine, Vents magazine & L3 magazine.
The most refreshing thing about Blu is his willingness to experiment with different genres of music and the proper execution he displays when fusing his raps and production skills with reggae lingo and style. His song writing and lyrical ability is a gift that will soon have him competing in the wars for billboard supremacy.
Blu’s album which is still untitled will be released early 2012. His mixtape, ‘Big Business’ can be downloaded from his website www.blulyon.com and his single ‘Open Wide’ is available now on itunes.

  of artists score in the 2.5 to 3.5 range in the various categories.
  
  Whenever an artist sees a 1, 1.5, 2, 2.5, 3 or 3.5 as a score in a certain category
  (or categories) it means that's an area feel they need to improve and develop.
  
  When an artist sees 4, 4.5 or 5 as their score in a category, it's a validation from
  a professional, confirming that the songs are of the highest level and show strong
  potential in the ultra-competitive music industry.
  
  To really raise the bar, every artist should work hard to earn a 4.5 or 5 in every category.
  
  It's a very competitive business and people averaging in the 3's (or less) will probably not get too
  far without a great deal of improvement and development.
  
  I don't give out 4's and 5's easily, so any of those you see, you have earned. Well done!
  
  One thing to keep in mind, at least for your songs designated as "Singles" (the songs geared towards
  winning over radio stations, record company executives and music publishers) - try to keep Intros to

  Skope: How does it feel to be chosen as an “A2W” artist for March 2010? Blu Lyon: It’s a beautiful ...Skope: How does it feel to be chosen as an “A2W” artist for March 2010?
  Blu Lyon: It’s a beautiful feeling for someone to just take the time to listen to my music, so to be recognized as an artist people should pay attention to by a publication like Skope feels Amazing. It definitely helps your self esteem for those times when you are facing those hardships trying to be successful in this business.
  
  Skope: What are you currently working on in your musical endeavors?
  Blu Lyon: I am working on promoting and finishing my debut CD “Super Blue’s Bastard Son” and an itinerary for a tour. I also produce, so I am getting into composing music for TV and Film projects.

  Once the project is complete there will be more videos shot. I have already completed treatments for three (3) new ones. There are also videos of shows I performed on my Myspace page and Youtube. All you have to do is search my name.
  
  Skope: What is your favorite time of day to create music?
  Blu Lyon: Lol. All day everyday. Most work actually gets completed in the extremely early hours of the morning, but there is no real favorite time for me. I have favorite places like the kitchen in Beatmania Studios. That’s a studio in New York that I frequently use and for some reason the kitchen is the creative spot for me. There is also the bus and train, whenever I do take them. I can honestly say that my most creative works have been born in those atmospheres.
  
  Skope: What is coming up for you and where can readers learn more about you?
  Blu Lyon: My CD “Super Blue’s Bastard Son” will be out in June. I have performance dates in the New York area coming up towards the end of spring and when the summer comes into full swing I should be heading out of state on my own tour or that of someone else. I am also producing the music for a very promising new reality series featuring some past VH1 reality stars. The show is called “Work It Out” and its being done by Tony Money and Sebastian from www.Shifted2u.com. You may not know who he is now but you will soon because he is beginning to be mentioned on mixtapes, local radio stations, and at neighborhood parties when the dj is giving his shout outs. “Big up the big bad Blu Lyon!”….so who the hell is Blu Lyon?!
  
  Blu is a producer/dancehall/hip-hop artist; the first son of Trinidad’s soca star Super Blue and brother to Fayann Lyons, the wife of Bunji Garlin. Knowing who he is related to would make you think his road to musical success is an easy one, but it is quite the opposite. There is no success in his career so far that can be attributed to help from his famous family. He has not seen his father in years and spent only a day with his sister Fayann in 2008 out of a two week visit to Trinidad. “I am basically non-existent to them….. 90% of people in Trinidad don’t even know about me, but they know about the other kids. They all keep in touch with each other, I’m the only one not in the circle.”
  
  Though that situation may be unsettling for a regular person, it does not bother Blu. He has his own agenda, projects, growing fan base and career in music producing riddims featuring reggae stars such as Mr. Easy, Mega Banton, Merciless, Vybz kartel, Teflon, Determine and Yami Bolo that will see release dates in 2010. Not to mention scheduled work to produce music for a very promising new show featuring some VH1 reality stars and records for some big names in the hip hop world as well.
  
  However, all this takes a backseat to the momentum he is building as a recording artist. His songs “They Keep Calling” and “Jah Protect me” are currently receiving spins on numerous internet and college radio stations before he is even finished with the recording of his independent project “Super Blue’s Bastard Son”. His most recent recording “Poor No More”, done to the instrumental of the new billboard hit “Hold Yuh” by reggae artist Gyptian, is being played locally and in countries he has never been to such as England and Portugal, due to rigorous online promotion from MySpace to face book and other various social networking sites. “I can’t be out much when I’m in the studio 12 hours a day finishing projects, so I need the internet because it’s the best way to get to the public without stepping outside.”

  What's the meaning behind your name? My name is a result of my old man being a famous Caribbean sin...What's the meaning behind your name?
  My name is a result of my old man being a famous Caribbean singer. His name was Blue Boy when he started out, and then after a few consecutive hits the fans started calling him Super Blue. People who knew I was his son used to call me "Little Boy Blue", "Super Blue Junior" and any other clever name they could come up with associated with that. Blu Lyon is just the one that stuck. “Lyons” is my actual last name.
  
  How did you get started with all this??
  I started out by teaching myself how to make music using a program called "Fruity Loops". Then I made tapes, gave them out, met other kids who were also into music and wanted to do more after getting good reviews from them. I loved doing it and could not stop.
  
  What's the message to transmit with your music??
  I am just translating my life experiences and thoughts into a musical form. There is no specific message I’m trying to get to people. I would only hope that people can listen to my work and see that real creativity is not dead.
  
  What's your method at the time of writing a song??
  There is no real method to my writing process. Sometimes I do not even write lyrics, I just record things as they come to me. My ideas come at anytime or place while I am doing any number of things.
  
  Which is your music influences??
  I listen to anything that sonically and creatively sounds good. I am not biased to any specific genre of music. Different musicians/artist influence or inspires me for different reasons. Some do it with their musical creativity, others with their work ethic, etc. I’m very much into Bounty Killer, Mavado, Vybz kartel, Linkin Park, Lil Wayne, 50 Cent, Dr. Dre, Eminem, Charlotte Church, Hayley Westerna & Kanye West. These are the ones I am listening to and watching frequently right now.
  
  What plans do you guys have for the future??
  I'm working to release my mixtape, "Super Blue's Bastard Son" early January 2011 and do some touring to promote it. I am also planning on becoming heavily involved with sound design and scoring for television and movies. Right now I'm doing the music for a new reality show called "Work It Out" which should hopefully be picked up by a network in the near future.
  
  Which has been the funniest prank you guys have been or took part while on tour or after a show??I did a show in Atlantic City once and after the show we got together with some girls, drank, and partied hard. My high school buddy Avarice got drunk out of his mind in the hotel room and passed out; he was sound asleep. He is the type of guy that is always talking about the high class of women he dates, so we all got the bright idea to get an extremely ugly girl to be in bed with him when he gets up. We went out found a “working” girl that wasn’t very attractive and a bit heavy, striped him naked and let her sleep in the bed with him. No one slept that whole night cause we didn’t want to miss his reaction and it was very well worth it when he got up and saw her naked in bed with him. The joke lasted about 10 minutes then we told him. She was a good sport about it but he was angry the rest of the trip.
  
  If you guys were stranded in the middle of nowhere after a show or while on tour. The help is 65 miles away from where you guys are, ¿Who would you guys send to look for help? And if while the rest wait, there's no food and the only way to feed yourself is by eating each other, ¿Who would you eat first? I would send my homeboy Tarique to go get the help and we would probably eat my artist Jimmy Hayze first. He is pretty big, we could last a while on his fat. Probably won’t have to eat anyone else after him.
  
  What country you guys would love to play? I want to perform in New Zealand. I’m a big fan of Lord Of The Rings and would love to visit the places that it was filmed while there.
  
  With what bands you guys would love to share stage??
  It would be great to perform with Kanye West. The thought and creativity he puts into his stage sets and performance impresses me. I love that he experiments with different genres and that he is someone who is passionate about the total art of music; the creation of music and the delivery of it to an audience. I believe that I am passionate about it in that same way so it would be a pleasure to share a stage with him at his best.
  
  Are you OK, with the direction your career is going actually? I am satisfied with the my musical and career direction just not happy with the speed at which its moving. Sometimes there is not enough time or help to get everything done, so some opportunities cannot be taken or pursued. Its a hardship but hopefully it will get better soon.
