"He's a versatile, forward looking and accomplished performer."
Jazz Times

"His bowing is some of the best I ever heard. He is a true rival of Mike Formanek, Dave Holland, and Paul Rogers."
Beyond Coltrane

"Mike to me has a lot of technique and he's perfect for playing in a trio because he's inspirational, he will follow my chords, whatever melody I play he will follow, he will change key with me; which is what I need."
Hal Russell (Hal An Oral History)

Instrumentation

It varies with each project.

Setlist

It would vary depending on the project. Michael has been a sideman most of his career and still works as a sideman with other people. He sight-reads, improvises, composes, has a practical degree of perfect pitch and knows hundreds of tunes in many different styles in any key. He has worked with professional conductors in professional pit orchestras and played many 5.5hr (piano/ string bass - duo) jazz gigs with no written music and no repeats. Michael has played thousands of contemporary dance jobs on electric bass and gigs with it regularly. At times he'll be gigging primarily on string bass and at other times he'll be gigging primarily on electric bass.
