Causing Problems is a four-piece rock/rockabilly band based out of La Mesa, California in San Diego County. Their musical influences include Jump (fka Jump, Little Children), Old 97's, Jimmy Eat World, Anberlin, Motion City Soundtrack, The Get Up Kids, Further Seems Forever, Oingo Boingo, Tears for Fears, and L'arc~en~Ciel. The four members of Causing Problems are dedicated individuals who are focused on getting more exposure to their music and ultimately a bigger fan base.
In the last few weeks Causing Problems has been in the studio recording four new songs. They are pleased with their progress and are expected to finish recording soon. In addition to recording, Causing Problems has been booking many venues in the San Diego area and are looking to expand. This has been an exciting prospect for the band as it brings about the public exposure their music needs. Recent performances include small to large sized venues such as Channel Twelve25 in El Cajon, Canes Bar and Grill in Mission Beach, and O'Connells in the USD area. They have also performed at the San Diego County Fair in Del Mar.
Causing Problems has been writing and composing music together for almost nine years. They have recorded two independent EPs (Trying New Things and Something Beautiful to Hold), a full-length album (Huckleberry), and have written over 20 original songs. The band has devoted much of their transition time to examining their songwriting and distinguishing what sets apart their good songs from the so-so. Going through an entirely acoustic phase, Causing Problems has emerged with songs that are ripe and juicy when plugged in or unplugged focusing on lyrical content, harmonic depth, complexity and overall catchiness. Their songs refuse to let you sit and listen passively.
Andy Killion, Branden Gerbracht, Robert Thomas, and Scott Brown originally started Causing Problems in 2000. Robert left the band in 2006 to focus on his career, opening a spot for current bassist, Richard LeGerrette. From 2006-2007 while Scott worked on getting his BS at Hawaii Pacific University, Ronnie Valles was the interim drummer for the band. The group has prevailed through two college degrees and two more are currently being pursued.
Causing Problems hopes to transpose their success in academics to the stage. They continue to be active in songwriting and performing. Their goal is for every listener to connect with the band's experiences, moods, and personalities as if they were their own.
