Artist Information

Biography

Formed in Whittier, CA The Voodoo Fix is a floor stomping combination of blues, rock, and funk that is nearly impossible to classify into one genre of music. Amidst a heavy tour schedule that has kept them on the road since 2009, The Voodoo Fix have evolved their musical style, drawing on a range of influences including The Rolling Stones, Little Feat, Funkadelic, and John Lee Hooker. The band tours year-round, constantly playing clubs, colleges and festivals across the country. With shared experiences from a blown up school bus on their first tour, a month of isolation in a remote mountain cabin to record their first album, to sharing the stage with Buddy Guy, Howlin’ Rain, and Toubab Krewe on their first East Coast tour, The Voodoo Fix has been howling their way around the country Last Fall, the band played benefit shows on organic farms from coast to coast, in a traveling grassroots festival known as ‘Tour-Ganic’ and are planning for more of these barn burning farm shows for 2013.

The five musicians glue together very different, but dynamic playing styles into one unforgettable experience that zaps music back to its roots while pushing the envelope at the same time. On lead vocals is Abe Rivers, a blues-drenched soul singer from San Francisco whose sunglasses reflect the awe-stricken faces captivated by the grit in his voice and the growl of his guitar. The band’s funky side comes from the eclectic bassist Captain Willy, known for his hypnotic rubbery grooves and constant bare feet because it helps him “feel the low-end.” On the other side of the stage is Los Angeles native Scott “Mr. P.” Parrelli whose guitar balances the punk to funk ratio. On drums, is the high-energy New Yorker Jeremy “Deitz on Beatz,” whose blend of urban funk, and jazz, set the foundation for the Yin and Yang of Captain Willy and Mr. P, as he hypes up audiences with a blend of pulse driven breakdowns and swampy grooves. The gravy on top of it all is Doc Russell, the multifaceted player who bounces between slide guitar, keyboards, and percussion to fill in the cracks with his own style that bends, drones, and swings in all the right places.

Simply put, The Voodoo Fix is the kind of band that is meant to be heard live. With their explosive energy, The Voodoo Fix delivers what fans refer to as their “fix,” or in other words, a strong dose of rock and roll.
