Biography
A dark, poetic blend of diverse American styles rooted in familiar but unexpected textures. A Slow Death & Loneliness consistently delivers intense and intricate arrangements that give exceptional depth to the hauntingly beautiful lyrics. Influences from Tom Waits and Nick Cave to Johnny Cash and Bill Monroe have lead the band to its own style of honest, American music.
A Slow Death & Loneliness was created in 2007 when bassist Jake Metric joined musical counterparts Matt Haden (singer/songwriter/acoustic guitar/banjo), Matt Werden (electric guitar/resonator), and Luis Cruz (drums/trumpet/piano). The band has established themselves in the unforgiving NYC music scene with an ongoing residency at Banjo Jim’s in the heart of the East Village. Their untitled debut album was released in February 2009, featuring expert local instrumentalists Gerald Menke (pedal steel), Rob Hect (Violin), and J. Granelli (upright bass).
