When Connecticut resident Bill Brubaker decided he wanted to put together a tribute band of one of the most influential music acts of the 1960s, he knew exactly who to call.
Brubaker collected some of his former band mates and also some new blood to form California Dreamers, a cover band of the Mamas and the Papas. The band formed in May 2008, and played their first performance in December 2008. Since then, California Dreamers have expanded their show to include hits by The Association, The Byrds, The Hollies, The Zombies, The Seekers, and much, much more.
"I have been in cover bands for years," guitarist and vocalist Brubaker said. "I have always loved the way the Mamas and the Papas had mixed vocals and the song writing of John Phillips. So I called up the best female vocalist I knew and if she wasn't on board, I wasn't going to do it."
Jennifer Gelineau, gave him an immediate and enthusiastic "yes" when he asked her to team up once again. The two had previously worked together in Spellbinder, an '80s cover band.
The group is comprised of Brubaker, Gelineau and Dillon on vocals, Ivan Podgwaite on bass, Mike Colavolpe on guitar, Bart Bradbury on keyboard and Ray Palagy on drums.
The group's set list includes classic works from the Mamas and the Papas, such as "California Dreamin," "Creeque Alley" and the ear-bending solo "Dream a Little Dream of Me" performed originally by Elliot and covered by Gelineau. With their unique music, smooth sounds and family-friendly lyrics, the California Dreamers hope that being one of a kind will help them to succeed in the music world.
California Dreamers have been booked into some of the largest festivals/fairs in the Northeast for the 2009 season
