Biography

“The dynamics of fluidity, the pull of bodies in motion, the ebb and flow of attraction…”

Partners in music…and life…Mirana and Rick Comstock’s latest band, Theory of Tides, is named after scientific theories that date back to Newton and Galileo. Their haunting vocals, brutally honest lyrics, strong guitar, bass and keyboards are set against electronica, hip hop, Latin and trance beats, mixing an alternative rock sensibility with a dynamic danceability unique to TOT.

Creativity flows through every aspect of their lives. Mirana was raised in a family of acclaimed artists and writers, including her grandfather, Konrad Bercovici, a Gypsy musician and author of, among other things, the original screenplay for Chaplin’s “The Great Dictator.” Trained in “the family business” at Music and Art, Juilliard and Lee Strasberg, she has also won awards for screenwriting, copywriting and photography, with selections from her PhotoJournal www.9-11images.com in museum and historical collections. Rick, who grew up surrounded by the Jersey Shore sound, found his own sound as a guitar and bass player, as well as designing and building sound studios in New York City and Boston’s South Shore.

Fronting indie bands Sighs Five and Secret Service on the New York club circuit for many years, they developed a following at such hotspots as CBGB’s, Great Gildersleeves, Trax and The Bottom Line. Tracks from indie albums recorded at the legendary Electric Lady and Sorceror Sound were in heavy rotation on rock radio, rock press praised their “strong guitar, exceptionally fluid vocals and catchy hooks” and their music videos aired on MTV.

From New York indie rockers to Theory of Tides, Mirana and Rick now relaunch with new songs and a new sound. Exploring the changing nature of love and life, time and tide, TOT is both current and timeless.
