Artist Information
Biography
seaflux is the culmination of years of study by its leading members, Phil Christensen and Matthew Cole. Christensen and Cole met originally at college in upstate New York. After years of playing in various bands together and with others, the duo found themselves in the same city again, and began their conquest of the NYC club scene.
seaflux is devoted to the idea of improvisational composition, but also places a large emphasis on the importance of compositional structure as a contrast to the looser nature of free improvisation. Resistant to (but accepting of) the "jam band" label, seaflux endeavors to show a harder edge than most of the jam band community, while still presenting catchy tunes and insightful lyrics for fans of traditional, song-based performances.
seaflux's greatest influences include (but are not limited to) Medeski Martin and Wood, Frank Zappa, Umphrey's McGee, Sublime, King Crimson, Rage Against the Machine, Dethklok, and many others.
Instrumentation
Phil Christensen, guitar; Matthew Cole, drums; and a rotating cast of other musicians.
Discography
demos include the Rothbury EP and the Europa EP

Setlist
Currently, due to the realities of the NYC club scene, seaflux sets are often limited to 45 minutes, but we cut our teeth playing all night, usually as three 1-hour sets.
Current setlists are often created on the fly, but often follow the template of:
(opening jam) > (instrumental duo material) > (addition of special guests and lyric-based song structures) > (closing rocker, often a hard rock cover)
