Biography
Michael Morse was born in Texas but by some odd twist of fate has found himself wandering around New York City for more than half his life now. When he was 13 his mother ordered him to choose an instrument and learn to play it. Like every 19 out of 20 teens faced with this situation, he chose the guitar and his musical interests began to snowball from there. He now plays a lot of instruments (some of them well) and sings and writes songs. Whenever he manages to find musicians to play behind him, he calls himself MJ & The Heretics. His favorite bands/musicians are Bob Dylan, The Beatles, The Velvet Underground, Robert Johnson, Lead Belly, Chuck Berry, Johnny Cash, The Modern Lovers, The Stooges, Mississippi John Hurt, Blind Willie McTell, The Thamesmen, Woody Guthrie and too many more to list here. Michael is also an actor, cartoonist, improviser and filmmaker.
Instrumentation
Michael Morse plays the guitar (acoustic and electric), sings, bass guitar, harmonica, banjo, ukulele, lap steel, some keyboard, stylophone, and whatever else he can get his hands on.
However!
He can't play all those instruments at the same time so at live shows Michael often calls upon his talented musician friends to provide drums, bass, and sometimes more guitars and other various wacky instruments.
