In the mist of what was unmistakably gunshots, followed by sirens
and urban streets clatter during the revolutionary war; was the
receptacle of peace that came through the music. Musicians rival for
a chance to perform, while seats and standing room for the spectators
became a necessity for capturing just a glimpse of a “Calgon
take me away”, moment! They began to play. The change of tone
went immediately in affect .The musicians fed off enthusiasm and
audience participation, while the listeners experienced a sound that
could only be encountered in a classic revolutionary café. Every period
has its pop music, light or dance music. The classical period in music is
the only time in music history where the highest quality music was put
forth as entertainment. There were no boundaries to separate this genre
No boundaries was the sense of emotionalism I experienced while idling
in the World Live Café, listening to the music of one of Philadelphia’s
premiere bands, “Vent”. It was almost an instant replay of a time traveler’s
journey taking me back to that convivial Revolutionary Café! As
the lead vocalist reached for the microphone, and the rest of the band
took their places, the crowd grew eager to hear the sound. As the music
began and she belted out her first note, you could feel a shift in the atmosphere.
All eyes, ears, and hearts were at peace. As I pierced the
room, I saw nothing less than absolute satisfaction.
Vent is an Alternative Rock/Soul Band inspired by a sense of jazz,
heavy metal, and country that consist of eleven members; lead vocals
and Lyrics; (22) year old Taylor Toby Vent Martin, (22yr old) Charles
Smith Keys- Musical Director,( 20 yr old) Terrell Swinton- on keys, (20yr
old) Devonaire Adams on drums, (20yr old) Christopher Smith- on Bass
guitar, (22yr old) Josh Miller- on percussions who are all Pennsylvania
natives; (28yr old) Doug Pokorny- on the saxophone by way of Canada,
and (32yr old) Dai Miyazaki- playing guitar by way of Korea. The band
also has three background vocalist (19yr old) Nicole Henderson,(20 yr old )
Taneesha Smith and (24yr old) Quadi Gardner who also take on the job
as being the band’s stylist. Also all of the band mates are natives of Pennsylvania.
The band made its debut August 9th 2008 and have been climbing the
mountain of success by opening for such artist as Marsha from the group
(formerly known as Floetry), making special guest appearances in venues
such as The Village Underground and National Underground in the city
that never sleeps and performing in prominent locations throughout the
metropolitan area. The music of Vent can only be interpreted as “the music
for all occasions”. When asked who the band can be compared to, lead
vocalist Taylor says “We have frequently been compared to the likes of No
Doubt, The Roots, Blink 82, and Steely Dan. However, the band is consistently
striving for the mark of musical limitlessness.” On January
25th2009, Vent celebrated the New Year with an album release party. I
give nothing less than an almost perfect salute to Vent, a new generation
of sound, making a revolutionary difference.

I ran across this group while they were playing at Northstar in North Philly. There songs are all original, but they feel as though you can hear them on the radio right now. Which I bet isnt to far away from this groups future.
Their background vocals are totally on point, its very rare to come across a set of musicians that truly practice and are musically effective in their delivery. Their sound to me is like a soulful mix of hip-hop and R&B which is very unique to its own. You have got to visit there myspace page and hear their song VEnT and LIVE absolutely sick, sick, sick!!! They have an album release coming up next year on January 25th at Warmdaddy's another hot spot for great live music and awsome food. We'll try to post some of their engagements coming up on our "EVENT & NEWS" page to keep you posted on anything new thats coming up with them. Or just visit there myspace page by clicking here! http://www.myspace.com/ventmusicill
