Fifth Story is an indie rock band consisting of three friends that have developed an adventurous approach to songwriting. Formed in Chicago in early 2007, Richard (guitar), Jason (Bass / Vocals), & Michael (Drums) have spent much of the past two years rendering their music into a live atmosphere and developing a loyal fan base along the way.
Drawing upon the melodies of J.Mascis of Dinosaur Jr., experimental guitar styles similar to Lee Ranaldo and Thurston Moore of Sonic Youth, and coupled with the melodic undertones comparable to Ben Bridwell of Band of Horses, Fifth Story have established a catalog of well crafted, powerful songs. With the addition of a strong DIY ethos and energetic live performances, the band has rapidly reached the top of Chicago's buzz charts.
In 2009 Fifth Story released its debut self-titled EP that quickly landed them headlining spots at many of Chicago's premier venues including The Hard Rock Cafe, The Elbo Room, The Bottom Lounge, Reggies Rock Club, Martyrs', and Double Door. The same year Fifth Story was selected as a feature artist during Chicago's Mobfest showcase. In addition, their song Pretty Scene was a choice track on The Radio One / Windy City Records Compilation, and the band performed live on University of Illinois' Hidden Treasures of Rock and Roll Show. In January of 2010 the band released a double ep, This Day Will Come and Seasides hosting the release party to a sold out audience at the Lasalle Power Co. The band followed up this show as a requested opener for Scott Ian's band Pearl at The Double Door Chicago.
Currently Fifth Story is touring in support of their latest EP release with the intention of building a national fan base and securing their place in independent music. The band is also planning the release of its first full length LP in 2010.

"After attending countless concerts in Chicago and sitting in on numerous demo panels the past year, I walked into the Lasalle Power Co. for Fifth Story's Ep release with no expectations. I was highly surprised with the band's energy and interaction with the packed house. For a band that hasn't broke yet, they gave the performance of a seasoned national act. Rarely does a band tempt me to pick up their Cd after checking out their performance, but these guys definetley had that "it" factor. After popping it in my car on the way home the songs held true throughout their EP. If this band is the best kept secret in Chicago, they won't be for long."

"Simply good rock music with deep, raspy vocals is how SouthSide would describe Fifth Story’s MOB Fe..."Simply good rock music with deep, raspy vocals is how SouthSide would describe Fifth Story’s MOB Fest performance. This band didn’t need a flashy gimmick or whatnot to garner the fans’ attention. They let the music be their spokesperson for them. Fifth Story throughout the set showed how versatile they can be within in the rock genre without pegging them into one category. One minute they could turn a ballad into a sweet lullaby and in the next pounding your ears with blood-curdling guitar riffs. SouthSide suggests listening to their Southern fried rock song, Whiskey. The guitar solos during the instrumental had many in the audience dancing to the music. Yet this reviewer did have problem with the low vocals during the set. At times, the lead’s voice was too soft to be heard over the rockin’ music. Still at the precise moment, he could rip the microphone with such emotion and passion that it drove the ladies wild. SouthSide recommends listening to Fifth Story’s Lady Love in which you can feel as well as hear emotions pouring out of his voice. Another fine example would be Lake Michigan in which the softness of his raspy voice shined throughout the song. In the end, Fifth Story had this crowd screaming for more. This reviewer recommends Fearless fans checking out this unique band at their next performance."
