Biography

Joe Dundore is a graduate from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia with a Masters in the Art of Teaching – Music, and the acclaimed Berklee College of Music in 2002, with a Bachelor of Music Degree in Professional Music, Magna Cum Laude. Main concentrated areas of study were saxophone, flute, and clarinet performance; private instruction; composition in every musical style including rock, blues, jazz, pop, Latin, and r&b; production techniques; and music business. He has studied under the instruction of Fred Lipsius (Blood, Sweat and Tears), Dino Govoni, Shannon LeClaire, NYC Jazz innovator George Garzone, Boston Symphony Flautist Wendy Rolfe, and Lancaster's own Dave Wilson and Tom Strohman. Learning a repertoire of tunes, altissimo register studies, sight-reading exercises, rhythm and time exercises, bebop and jazz improvisation, harmony, rhythm and classical studies.

In addition to his education, Mr. Dundore has extensive volunteering experience, including sole director of a Benefit Concert in 2002, which raised Money for The Victims of September 11th Tragedies selling self produced and written music, CDs, T-shirts, Posters, and Video Tapes, proceeds going to the Women and Children of NYC Firefighters Fund. His first big event for his non-profit JoeyDCares, entitled, JoeyDCares.org Presents: HOPE. A Benefit Concert for the American Cancer Society, took place on June 5th, 2009, and was a huge success!

His performance experience includes auditioning for the NBC show, "America's Got Talent!" in 2008, in which he received an all expense paid trip to Las Vegas to participate in the show, and appeared in a local newspaper. In June of 2009, he was the winner of the Ephrata Performing Arts Center's Got Talent, received $1,000 cash and two round trip tickets to anywhere in the continental U.S.!

Supplemental performance experience includes a tour of Europe with American Music Abroad, visiting France, Belgium, Germany and Austria, seating 1st Chair Alto Saxophone, while having his own solo song, the first time in the tour's history. He participated extensively with the Dave Wilson Trio, Dave Wilson's Young Sounds, the Central Pennsylvania Friends of Jazz Youth Band (as opening act for Ramsey Lewis from Earth, Wind and Fire), the Erin Walker Trio, the Bainbridge Band, and trios of his own. His theatre experience includes performing in the Dutch Apple Dinner Theater's production of "Grease", and the Ephrata Performing Arts Center's production of "Annie Get Your Gun". 

Mr. Dundore has taught individual instruction for the past 14 years, 7 of which were full time. During this time he has taught advanced saxophone, flute, and clarinet, and beginner percussion, trumpet and piano.

For the past 4 years Mr. Dundore has been teaching in the Carroll County Public School system in various functions. He has taught special needs students at Carroll Springs School, educating LFI students, children with disabilities ages 3-21, and students who belong to the PRIDE Program K-5 (children with emotional/behavioral disabilities). His responsibilities at Oklahoma Road Middle School included general music, concert band, orchestra and jazz band.

  Saxophonist Joey Dundore, who is a music teacher at Oklahoma Road Middle School, was recently on NBC...Saxophonist Joey Dundore, who is a music teacher at Oklahoma Road Middle School, was recently on NBC’s talent search “America’s Got Talent”.
  
  Dundore, who has been teaching in Carroll County since 2005, was partially encouraged to enter the contest by a student. “Well at the time I was teaching, giving a flute lesson, and I told [the student] about [sending in the DVD and going to Vegas] and she said, ‘Ya gotta go Mr. D, ya gotta!’, so that helped too,” Dundore said.
  
  His main motivation for entering the contest was to further his musical career. He stated that he had been interested in entering some type of contest for awhile, “I just hadn’t got around to it,” he explained.
  
  The entire process was rather quick. Within one week of sending in his audition tape back in May, Dundore received a call telling him he was being sent off to Las Vegas for an all expense paid trip. “I was pretty nervous,” Dundore admitted.
  
  He said that the experience was “pretty cool” mentioning that he had never before been to Vegas, and walking around the city was fun. At the actual audition, for copyright reasons, Dundore had to play a different song than he was planning on playing, and overall only got about a second on national TV. His performance aired on July 29.
  
  Although his “America’s Got Talent” run was short lived, the experience was encouraging. “I’ve been practicing more and started learning guitar this summer,” Dundore said. He is still seeking dancers interested in collaborating with him for future endeavors.
  
  Dundore’s love for music is nothing new, as he explains on his website. “I knew I wanted to pursue music when I was in the third grade, about five years into playing the saxophone.” His resume is rather lengthy, having worked with several central Pennsylvania professional jazz bands, including the Dave Wilson Trio, Central Pennsylvania’s Friends of Jazz Youth Band, the Erin Walker Trio, and the Young Sounds Big Band and also touring with the American Music Abroad European Tour group as first chair Alto saxophone.
  
  His professional goals “are to become an outstanding writer/ performer of jazz, funk, R&B, pop and contemporary styles.” He added, “I want to create music where melody is so important that words do not matter.”

  A Penn Manor graduate traveled to Las Vegas to compete on "America's Got Talent," but was eliminated...A Penn Manor graduate traveled to Las Vegas to compete on "America's Got Talent," but was eliminated after his first performance.
  
  Joey Dundore, Jr. 29, a saxophonist who now teaches in Maryland, initially tried out via a video he submitted to the NBC television show.
  
  After viewing the video, the producers called Dundore on the Friday before Mother's Day, and the next day he was in Las Vegas.
  
  "America's Got Talent" features performers who to to advance in ongoing competition. Starring as judges are Sharon Osbourne, David Hasselhoff and Piers Morgan.
  
  TV personality Jerry Springer is the host.
  
  Dundore who teaches middle school in Carroll County, Md., got to perform waiting from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and most of the day on Sunday.
  
  Unfortunately, things did not go as well as he had hoped. The music he had been given to practice involved singing, which he had not done in his audition.
  
  To make matters worse, the music was not in the same key in which he was playing.
  
  "You have 90 seconds to play, and the goal is not to get three X's before that," said Dundore, the son of Joe Dundore, Sr. and Carol Dundore.
  
  As Dundore, who currently lives in Westminster, Md., realized the audition was not going well, he decided to stray from the song and improvise.
  
  The audience loved it, but unfortunately the judges did not. He got X's from all three.
  
  Dundore didn't have unkind words for the judges, though. He congratulated Morgan on his success on "Celebrity Apprentice," told Osbourne "you are beautiful." He told Hasselhoff that "you are one of my heroes."
  
  The episode in which Dundore appeared aired July 29.
