Joe Kidd and The Gash Bio, 2010

Joe Kidd and The Gash is a surf-punk hybrid with subtle touches of 1980's NY Post Punk. While the hooks are catchy, JK+G's music surfs the wild edge of invention. It's often an unfamiliar yet engaging experience to new listeners.

After playing many different genre's in other people's bands Joe Kidd set out to develop his own brand of music. Pulling from influences such as Dick Dale, The Dead Kennedys, Devo and The Violent Femmes he sat down to record in August 2003. He played the drums, guitar, bass, keys and performed all the vocals. The 7 songs he recorded on his friends digital 8-track were mixed on the cheap and never mastered (part in tribute to his punk rock idols, part due to lack of cash). In 2007, with the help of Yasha Phillips on drums and Corky Cook on bass, five tracks were recorded at Alder Street Recorders in Hepseria, CA and mastered at Silver Sonya in Virginia. Those tracks were put together with the original demo to form Joe Kidd and The Gash's first release, "Fever Dreams".

Fever Dreams received good reviews and was played on a hand full of college radio stations. Between 2007 and 2008 Joe Kidd and The Gash worked on self promoting Fever Dreams and playing shows all around Southern California.

In November '07 the band placed first at Fresh Fest and won recording time at Mystic Studios in Apple Valley, CA. Since then Joe Kidd and Yasha Phillips have been in the studio with Nathan Paul, who is producing for the band.

The bands newest work, "Coping With Killer B's", is an ambitious departure from it's simple punk roots. The new album blends tempo and time changes with quirky melodies, spiked cleverly with tasty harmonies. It's an interesting piece that audiophiles will devour. While old influences are subtly apparent, the new songs harbor flavors of Talking Heads and Television. It differs stylistically from "Fever Dreams" but the vibe is still undeniably Joe Kidd and The Gash. The album is available for purchase on itunes, rhapsody, cdbaby and more.
