Artist Information
Biography
Andrew's main influences are 'legacy' acoustic artists like Ryan Adams, Dylan and Nick Drake. Appropriately enough his career started with a protest song, 'Cold Steel' - against the Lord's Resistance Army in Uganda. The song was picked up by Triple J in Australia, staying in the Top 10 of the Roots category for over three months. It was compared to Midlake for 'creamy harmonies' and to Damian Rice for its 'hopelessly beautiful' vocals. Encouraged he began recording a debut album with similiar elements but also a focus on classic acoustic songwriting too, Cat Stevens and Ryan Adams the touchstones for songs like 'Morning Paper' and 'Africa'. Andrew has followed up the LP with an EP featuring Dublin violinist (ex Damian Rice) Cian Loughnane which garnered a 5 STAR review from the Celtic Radio Network for 'deep Celtic roots' and 'expert musicianship'. InPress magazine declared it simply 'Mindblowing. This is drinking music!'
Instrumentation
Instrumentation is largely acoustic. Like Pete Yorn Andrew plays all instruments on his debut album 'Down With Wanderlust'. Ex Swell Season violinist Cian Loughnane plays beautifully on ltd ed. EP 'Songs to Get Us True'.
