Perry has been writing songs for over 35 years. His material draws on rich life experiences, which include growing up in rural eastern Canada, traveling the world while in the U.S. Navy and surviving the hi-tech rat race of Silicon Valley in California. He has a home on six acres of riverfront property in the woods of Oregon and also lives and works in Silicon Valley much of the time.

He advises, "Take your life to new extremes" on the chorus. Yet he also reminds us in one of this folk-rock song's verses, "One small step leads to another." Bruce Springsteen once sang, "From small things mamma big things one day come," and Devine appears to agree with that philosophy. With an aural backing that includes acoustic piano and guitar, as well as electric guitar, Devine applies a sometimes gruff singing style to a song that might just put a fire under your butt and cause you to make something of yourself.
I usually do two one-hour sets of mostly original material. I sometimes also feature some songs by other excellent songwriters that the audience might not be familiar with. I can also mix in a variety of cover songs if desired.
