Biography
Recently Ben Baxter has achieved local success representing UT in a national battle of the bands sponsored by Gibson Guitars and At&t. The band won the Texas Region and finished “Runner Up” for best college band of the South. They will be featured in next months Studybreaks Magazine. Ben Baxter Has finished their first studio EP which is now available on iTunes. In March they played a SXSW showcase sponsored by Oakley featuring Kate Voegele.
Ben Baxter is a 20-year-old singer/song-writer from central Texas. Since the age of 15, Ben has been writing songs and performing with various bands at small bars and venues developing his craft. After graduating from high school Ben moved to Austin to attend the Austin Live Music Academy (ALMA).
Upon graduation from ALMA, Ben put together a band comprised of three of his longtime friends and started taking his music in a new direction. His music focuses on the idea of finding yourself, having fun, doing what you love, and some more serious topics like homelessness and consumerism. The band began playing shows in the spring of ’09, since they have had the opportunity to open up for such acts as Afroman, Drake, Mike Posner, Bus to Brooklyn, Kevin Jack, Much Love, The Marmalakes, and Bun-B.
The following summer, Ben went through a life changing experience when his lung collapsed while out on the golf course with friends. The incident is described in the song “Flash”. Although this set the band back two months of playing, it allowed time for some inspirational writing. Following Ben’s recovery, the band kicked off their return with a welcome back show for St. Edward’s University in August with over 700 students in attendance. Since then, they have been playing fraternity parties, charity events, small venues, and private shows, growing a fan base.
“We strive to put on a great show and make the audience feel like they can let go, feel the vibe, take in the messages, and move to the music. We don't play music to get famous, make a ton of money, or be on the cover of magazines. I just want people to listen and hopefully learn. I simply exist within my music, lyrics, friends, and family. ” - Ben Baxter
