Biography

L.A., a modern jazz guitarist/ composer; he has many interests and his art and creativity is on display in this presentation.
L.A.’s relaxed approach to his art is always about the music and the collaboration he forges with other like minded musicians.
Originally self-taught guitarist, he eventually studied music composition–specifically the harmolodic approach to song composition ala Ornette Coleman.
He wishes “to advance the ideal of artistic freedom being unhindered by cultural assumptions about the individual and enforced as limiting expectations as it relates to categories and genre.”
Thus he dips his “toe” (so to speak) into many styles of creative music.
L. A.; current interest is playing in the genre of modern jazz/free improvisation, ambient, experimental, avant-gard/ avant- funk and film compositions.
L.A. is a composer, performer, musical director and producer of three performance groups, “Stop by Fear”, “The L.A. Jenkins Trio” and “The Joe Reese project”.
L.A. has collaborated with some of the most creative artist over the last couple of years: to name a few, percussionist: Tatsuya Nakatani, bassist Tom Abbs, bassist Joel Peterson, saxophonist Michael Cary, saxophonist Gary Thompson, drummer Ryan Jewell and multi- instrumentalist Hasan Abdur-Razzaq, Trumpeter Martin Ripple, multi- instrumentalist Tony Jacobs, Trumpeter James Cornish and Guitarist Ken Aldroft to name a few notable collaborations.
L A. is currently performing solo guitar at selected venues that encompasses modern jazz, ambient and experimental music.
February 2012, L.A. released a new album titled “Clarity of the Peculiar” on the west coast label “Edgetone Records.” Please check out some of the reviews for this adventurous project.
Performance; The OUS Urban Space, Tuesday night featured performer at the Zanzibar café, Blank Slate music festival presented by Earth house collective in Indianapolis, The Columbus Dance Theater, “New Music Series”, High Street gallery, Gabe Bellows performance space in Toledo Ohio, Indie rock club Rumba Café, Somewhere Else in Toronto Canada, Indy Hostile located in Indianapolis, Columbus “Gallery Hop” street presentation, the Ohio based, “What you Will” festival and Chicago's Brown Rice performance space.
