WITHOUT A FACE TRIES NEW APPROACH ON THE 1ST ALBUM WAS
BETTER

Texas-based Singer / Songwriter Shows Some New Tricks on Sophomore Effort

Dallas, TX—After wrapping up his US tour following the release of his debut, interestingly titled
Worst Debut Album Ever, Without a Face (a.k.a. Henry Dillard) was eager to write the follow-up
album. After months of writing and recording, Without a Face has returned with a (dare we say)
more serious, more mature, yet still incredibly quirky and interesting collection of songs on The
1st Album Was Better, out now on Redbird Records and Touring.

“At first I wanted to make another record very similar to my debut, but then I decided it'd be
good to try a different approach,” said Dillard. “I wouldn't necessarily say that my first record
is comedic, but it certainly had a lot of sardonic moments that would make people laugh.”

Listen to tracks like “Stung,” (video available here), “Alice the Waitress,” or “Booty” (“I miss
your derriere, I miss your badonkadonk”) from the new album to get a taste of the new sound.
But perhaps the greatest departure (and possibly the most compelling) of all the tracks is the
album-closing “Lone Star Anthem.” It’s a soul-infused gem complete with backup singers, a
horn section, and wikipedia-worthy commentary from Dillard about his beloved home state. It
sounds like Al Green covering a They Might Be Giants song about Texas… in a good way.

Producers Tim Convy and Tim Ferrell (both founding members of Ludo) agreed to bring a more
focused approach to Without a Face’s sound, narrowing his 30+ new songs to 10. The result
is a solid collection of simple, understated, acoustic pop driven by Dillard’s offbeat lyrics and
commanding vocals with flourishes of Moog, melodica, harmonica, piano, gang vocals, and a
dirty attic’s worth of percussion.

Without a Face is touring through the fall in support of The 1st Album Was Better with Chicago’s
State and Madison starting October 8th in Minneapolis.
