Biography

In 2007 Brant Westran sold his house in order to finance his debut album '3 in the morning' and fight for his dream of reaching out to people with his music. He started the indie record label 'B.Shan Records' to support the album. WESTRAN achieved huge commercial success on nothing but the strength of the songs for when his album was released Brant didn't even have a band. Once '3 in the morning' began getting radio play across Canada, he found himself answering the telephone a lot more. Requests for gigs started to flood in so Brant decided to put together a band that was talented enough to uphold the heart and soul of his songs, but could present them in a way that would remind people of what a rock concert was supposed to be like.

Lead vocalist and songwriter Brant Westran produced the album with Tim Neuhaus at Ear Art Music Studios in Delta, B.C. Westran also released a solo acoustic album, Acoustasoul, in 2006.
  
  The CD’s melodic first track, “Don’t Know,” is the first single from the album. It has poppy vocals, rocking guitars and a piano tinkering away in the background.
  
  Lead guitarist Adam Robinson shows off his skills best on this track as well as “Underneath” and “I Still Love You.”
  
  Levi Catroppa of Surrey’s rock group Burning Borders plays drums on the album, and Carol Balas of Icky Pink Music wrote “What Did I Say.”
  
  Most of the album sounds like a slower, poppier and more country version of Matchbox 20 or Nickelback. The songs reflect on sadness, love, being sorry and pretty much anything associated with a break-up.

  With a perfect blend of rock inspired songs, as well as melodic acoustic tracks, the Kamloops fourso...With a perfect blend of rock inspired songs, as well as melodic acoustic tracks, the Kamloops foursome that is Westran is quickly earning their stripes within the city’s music scene.
  
  The pop-rock band, including founding members Brant Westran and Adam Robinson, as well as bass guitarist Joe Rondeau and drummer Brett Ward, will be playing at The Commodore tomorrow night for a show that will surely be worth the $6 cover charge. Expect catchy tunes, acoustic melodies, distortions and covers of other favourite hits, says lead singer Westran.
  
  As with all talented and inspired musicians, singer/songwriter Westran started playing music because of failed relationships and from some inspiration from his cousin.
  
  “He played a song that he wrote and for him, he had been doing it all his life and it was nothing [for him], but it touched me. It moved me. I had never experienced that kind of emotion before.”
  
  From there, what originally started out as a pastime, quickly became serious for the self-taught musician who, under his own indie label B.Shan Records, released an acoustic-driven solo album in 2006.
  
  Fast forward a year or two, when Westran met his future lead guitarist, Robinson.
  
  The two lived in the same apartment complex, says Westran.
  
  “I heard playing one day when I was on my balcony. I heard this guitar riff so I yelled up to him and he peaked his head over.”
  
  The vocalist asked Robinson to “Come down and jam” and the musical friendship began.
  
  “We jammed several times a week for a while. We just fit together really well.”
  
  Soon, Westran and Robinson began talking about an album.
  
  “I looked at Adam and said, ‘You know what? Let’s do this together,’ so the pair went into the studio and started laying down tracks for the band’s debut album ‘3 in the Morning,’ described as “a fusion of hard rock, lingering melodies and the occasional country twang.” Westran and Robinson quickly realized they couldn’t do it alone, so Rondeau and Ward joined a short time later and Westran was born.
  
  These days, the talented band is hard at work playing gigs where they can and jamming at every opportunity. Westran is enjoying regular airplay on radio stations everywhere, which has consequently gained them a broad fan base.
  
  “Just over the last six months,” says Westran, “we’ve really been hitting the scene.” Always singing the praises of his talented group members, Westran explains the experience as “such a dream because these guys are so good and they make me even better.”
  
  “We’re just getting into the thick of it now. We’re getting lots of phone calls and we’re getting really busy for summer.”
  
  Clearly, listener response has been treating Westran well and with the attitude the band has, it’s only going to get better.
