Biography

The group was founded by Pablo and his brother Mariano in early 1996 in Buenos Aires, Argentina, when they recorded their
first demo.

In 2006 Pablo moved to Houston, where he’s put together a new band to play shows like THE INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL and HOUSTON PRESS MUSIC AWARDS where the band has been
nominated in the Best Latin Contemporary category three years in a row.

The music is a refreshing and innovative mix; British and American '60s revisited, blues oriented Psychedelic sounds with lyrics in Spanish and English as well.The band succeeds in driving forward the spirit of true rock n' roll...

Discography

The band has recorded 3 independent EP's with a variety of genres in their songs.

Madera (2001-lo-fi) combines the sad melodies of Neil Young, the catchy hooks of The Byrds and hypnotic indian sounds.

Siguiendo a la estrella "Following the star" (2005), combines psychedelic british sounds, space folk and epic melodies.

Aqui, ahora, siempre...(2006), is simply rock & roll.

A shaggy-haired wisp of a man, Pablo Espantapajaros is an absolute demon on the guitar, and the airtight three-piece band behind him set up a rolling groove that could have been transplanted from the Fillmore in San Francisco or that long-lost dingy London basement where the Yardbirds first started spreading their wings.

  El deseo de trascender en la música fue el motor que hizo que el rockero argentino Pablo Espantapája...El deseo de trascender en la música fue el motor que hizo que el rockero argentino Pablo Espantapájaros dejara Buenos Aires y llegara a Houston buscándose la vida como artista.
  Espantapájaros, de 36 años, no quiere dar su apellido real. A cambio, porta el artístico con orgullo porque es también el nombre de su grupo.
  Cuando salió de Argentina hace cuatro años, tenía un objetivo en la cabeza: labrarse un nombre en el rock bilingüe de Estados Unidos.
  Y llegó a Houston, donde ya vivía un hermano, a probar suerte.
  En su país quedó una trayectoria de dos décadas como músico, junto a su hermano, en el grupo Espantapájaros original, con el que grabó los discos Madera (2001), Siguiendo la estrella (2005) y Aquí, ahora, siempre... (2006). Los discos sólo se venden en Argentina.
  "Espantapájaros empezó en conspiración con mi hermano... muchos músicos fueron y vinieron. Pero podría decir que el grupo es mi proyecto como solista con músicos invitados de Ecuador, Venezuela y México", explica Pablo.
  En los años que Espantapájaros lleva en Houston ha tocado en el festival iFest y en el café Bohemeo´s, aunque acepta que "persistir en el oficio de la música acá en Texas es complicado, se requiere de mucha convicción en lo que uno hace".
  La música de Espantapájaros es un rock psicodélico, con ecos de rock-blues y con influencia del cantautor folk canadiense Neil Young, Los Beatles, los rockeros estadounidenses The Black Crowes y el grupo de rock argentino Vox Dei.
  Al llegar a Texas, dice Pablo Espantapájaros, el sonido de la banda cambió por la inclusión de músicos de otras nacionalidades y con otras influencias.
  "Obviamente, al tocar con diferentes músicos, el sonido cambia" reconoce el rockero. Pero, aclara, "con la banda con la que estoy ahora me siento muy cómodo tocando y muy contento".
  Sin embargo, como compositor, Pablosiente que era mucho más creativo en Argentina.
  "Acá la vida es diferente, corre más aprisa y sin pausas. Eso te condiciona", reconoce. "De todos modos, la composición es algo tan intangible, siempre cambia, uno no puede componer como lo hacía 10 años atrás ya que uno va creciendo".
  "Uno puede sentarse y escribir sobre la vaca, por ejemplo, o puede prender la radio y escuchar alguna historia. Lo que uno hace es traducir en palabras el universo que lo rodea", explica sobre su proceso de composición.
  Pero la raíz argentina siempre esta ahí. Como letrista, dice el rockero, el tango y su lírica trágica son una influencia decisiva.
  "Más allá de que toque o no tango, siendo de Buenos Aires uno ya sale con eso en la sangre y en el espíritu. Limpiando todas las influencias de mi música y mis letras, algo de tango hay", reconoce.
