Biography
The Damngivers are an Americana flavored band with good hooks, folky and introspective lyrics who can flat out rock, whisper, jam and induce lasting memories.
Their music is familiar, rootsy and comfortable. Lead singer/songwriter Gerry Gomez calls on sober-minded realism to examine the personal, social and political of today, and delivers the package with a sonic pallet similar to Wilco, Ryan Adams, Paul Westerberg and Neil Young.
Gomez walks the line of a cynic with a romantics' heart, akin to a songwriting Jon Stewart. He pens lines like, "Your mouth doesn't know what your mind oughta." Or, "Sometimes we say stupid things, like I love you," He can mine his soul and detail heartache with empathy, comment on working class strife, pine about baseball, or object life's inequalities. He writes of the American experience.
In addition to guitar, bass and drums, the Damngivers create their own sense of place with embellishments like pedal steel guitar , percussion, and the manically expressive guitar stylings of Mike Salas – all-in-all suggesting a kinship with AM radio of the ‘70s and the singer-songwriter genre.
