Biography

They’ve been called a modern-day Bonnie and Clyde, performing as their alter-ego “The Dandy Outlaws.”

ATTACK CAT is the girl/guy pop-rock duo from Cleveland with former drummer for Relient K Dave Douglas and Rachel Hoskins.

Their recent five-song EP release "Dandy Outlaws" cements the duo’s signature girl/guy dueling vocals and crisp pop-rock sound. Mix master Tom Lord Alge mixed their single “You Want Me Crazy."

Says the Cleveland Scene, "They pack enough personality into Dandy Outlaws' five brief songs to warrant their "influenced by grunge, hair metal, punk rock, and musical theatre" claim. Anthems like "Tricks" and "You Want Me Crazy" are essentially high-compressed power pop, and the twisty "Shoot From the Hip" would sound really good next to Cobra Starship on the radio."

ATTACK CAT has been seen and heard recently performing at the House of Blues with Owl City, at Ingenuity Fest and at the New York City soundtrack release event for the movie DRESSED. They were one of two featured performers for Fashion Week Cleveland, have had their video contest sponsored by Best Buy and had their single "You Want Me Crazy" featured in a Toyota commercial.

The Plain Dealer says ATTACK CAT is one of "25 Northeast Ohio Bands to Watch" in the Sept. 2011 article and described them as "Pop-rock with driving rhythms, gritty guitars and well-crafted arrangements."

They self-record and produce their tracks with Douglas pulling triple duty on guitars, bass and drums and currently recording a new EP scheduled for release Summer 2012.

• Cleveland's Attack Cat is poised to pounce with EP release and show at Grog Shop [+ Show ]
  

  I saw Pearl Jam once at the old Peabody's in the Flats, back in the early 1990s before they become t...I saw Pearl Jam once at the old Peabody's in the Flats, back in the early 1990s before they become the kings of grunge. Six months later, they were playing Lollapalooza and conquering the rock world. Now, I'm thinking maybe I should head down to the Grog Shop in Cleveland Heights on Wednesday, Nov. 4, so I can tell the kids that I caught a local club show by the Cleveland-based rock quintet Attack Cat before they hit the big time.
  Yeah, we know that we're going out on a limb here. It takes more than talent and tunes to make it today's iPod-driven rock world. But judging the stuff we've heard from the band's upcoming debut EP, "When the Moon Was Big," Attack Cat is poised to pounce.
  
  The group is fronted by....[Dave Douglas and Rachel Hoskins]. Dave used to be the drummer with the chartopping rock band Relient K before quitting in 2008 to pursue his own music here in Cleveland. Rachel, who performs under the stage name "Red," used to work at Cleveland.com as a producer before leaving earlier this year. They put their own girl-guy vocal stamp on a catchy blend of pile-driving, modern guitar rock. It's the sort of music currently burning up the pop charts thanks to acts like Paramore, All Time Low and O.A.R. and, well, Relient K.
  
  But Attack Cat is its own animal, adding a gritty, indie-rock vibe to its potent power-pop mix. There's a special chemistry between Dave Douglas and Red, particularly in way they trade lead vocals in songs like "I Have a Plan" and "You Never Knew." Four-part harmonies are also a hallmark of the band's sound. The lineup includes drummer Josh Young, bassist Justin Jarrett and guitarist Matt Pelsma. Dave Douglas plays the guitar leads and Red also performs on keys.
  
  The Nov. 4 Grog Shop show is an album-release party for "When the Moon Was Big." (The EP comes out Nov. 3.). The fun begins at 8 p.m. with openers A Mind Bird and Authors. A dance party will be held after Attack Cat's set, featuring DJ NoStress. Tickets are $5 in advance, $7 day of show. Check out the Grog Shop Web site for more details.
