In May '09 Hot Birds and the Chili Sauce hit the scene. There had been something missing in Phoenix. There were all these great bands and talented players, but why wasn't anyone bringin' the rare groove funk & soul? It was time to change all that. Time to bring back an era when players could play, singers could SANG and people came to a show to get down! Time to bring back the sounds of STAX & Muscle Shoals and to hearken back to the artists who were the REAL soul legends and don't get the credit they deserve! Ladies like Marva Whitney, Vicki Anderson, Lyn Collins, and soul legends like Dyke & The Blazers, Same & Dave, and Wilson Pickett just to name a few! How come people don't BRING IT like that anymore? Well, damnit, it's a new day! Hot Birds and the Chili Sauce are bringin' the rebirth of the rare groove to the people. While bands like Sharon Jones & the Dapp Kings, The Mighty Hannibal, The Budos Band and all the Daptone Records artist's are leading the rare groove revolution on the east coast, Hot Birds and the Chili Sauce has poised itself to join the revolution on the west coast! In less than three short years Hot Birds and the Chili Sauce has opened for Daptone's own The Budos Band, the legendary Gil Scott-Heron, Breakestra, B-Side Players, Orgone, The Aggrolites and the Love Me Nots, to name a few.. They have played major festival stages and shared the stage with headliners like Robert Randolph and the Family Band, Berlin, Joan Jett and more. Not to mention, continually playin' to packed houses all around Phoenix. Hot Birds and the Chili Sauce are currently working on original material for their first full length album expected to be released this year. Look out ....Hot Birds and the Chili Sauce is 12 pieces of soul and funk that's about to tear the roof off!!!

Funk has arrived in our state. There is no denying that fact. The lyrics above attest to exactly what I witnessed go down at the Lost Leaf.
Hot Birds & The Chili Sauce lay down some serious funk. The sultry voices of the Hot Birds truly are mesmerizing. To top it off, they boast that they are comprised of some of the best musicians in town. After watching them melt the paint of the walls, I am inclined to agree.
The music is truly a movement. I am not one for cutting a rug unless courage juice has been ingested, but my feet were tapping to the infectious grooves. This band is not only filled with extraordinary musicians who command your attention, they are all performers who demand that the whole block takes notice. Blues, funk and R&B at its best is exactly how I would describe Hot Birds. They even throw in the twist of being fronted by some of the most confident women ever. They all ooze sex appeal. Any one of them is more than welcome to sing me to sleep at night. All their voices have extensive strength and power, but a cooling, calming effect on the soul. This band is more than legit - they are performance-personified.
Hot Birds & The Chili Sauce are a must-see for you music lovers. I don’t care if you aren’t “a big funk fan” or whatever. This band is everything that music is all about. They are fun, energetic, smooth, seamless, endearing, enchanting and more. If you haven’t already checked out their website or Myspace over the course of reading this, then what are you waiting for?
