Biography

In a world thirsty for bands with a fresh and edgy sound, The Deedles are a breath of fresh air. No matter your musical taste, age or gender, there is something for you in the energetic, heartfelt and powerful music of this Kansas rock outfit. Emerging from the thriving Kansas bluegrass scene in the wake of their involvement with the late powerhouse, The DeWayn Brothers, husband and wife songwriting team Jamie (electric guitar, percussion, vocals) and Garrett Briggeman (electric guitar,electric banjo, vocals) have returned to their Rock and Roll roots. Including fellow DeWayn Brothers mandolin shredder Josh Finley (drums, vocals, artwork) and former Oakhurst mandolin wizard Adam Smith (bass, vocals) as the playful and solid rhythm section, The Deedles have taken to the road once again with a whole new beast!
From sultry blues and soul, to all out pedal to the metal modern rock, and from pumped up electric bluegrass, to melt your face epics, a la classic rock, the Deedles incorporate multiple genres, in a seamless and accessible way that reaches the hearts of everyone within earshot.
For The Deedles, Garrett and Jamie have tapped into their deep well of songwriting skills to bring the listener all original songs that are musically adventurous and lyrically mesmerizing, singing about life, love, loss, murder, and life on the road. Jamie has really come into her own exploring genres of music that she has always aspired to be a part of, and has surprised her fans with the fact that not only is she the amazing singer they have come to love, but a rocking guitarist as well. Sporting her sparkling champagne pink Daisy Rock guitar and her stunningly soaring voice, she quickly establishes that she is not just another pretty face.
Their debut release “NeveroddoreveN” was recorded in 3 days in Maple Grove, MN by Jamie Garner, and released in late 2009. It is but a peek into the world of The Deedles, as since, they have continued to write new music, dust off DeWayn favorites, and revive nearly forgotten songs from the early days of their careers with bands Eivy and Loco Macheen.
Anyone who denies themselves an opportunity to witness the unforgettable live show will no doubt hear about it at some point, and kick themselves once they give in. Do yourself a favor, and be sure to catch this band, you will thank yourself!

  It was an evening of firsts. I feel somewhat ashamed admitting this, music fan that I am, but this ...It was an evening of firsts. I feel somewhat ashamed admitting this, music fan that I am, but this was the first time I have ever been into the Mousetrap. It is a great venue for music! I really like the layout, where the people who want to sit at the bar, are away from the people who are there for the music. The Mousetrap, with its combined storefronts allow this ability.
  
  It was also my first time to see this band. And, Deedles, on tour from their home in Kansas is an interesting band. Sometime back they visited the Mousetrap somewhat regularly as the band DeWayn Brothers, a more traditional bluegrass band. Their sound now, I want to call it sort of, country/bluegrass meets punk rock. I really liked it. Vocals from lead singer Jamie Briggeman were crystal clear, perfectly on key, and flawlessly timed. On top of it, where many musicians play their music and sing, Briggeman adds facial expressions. When she is singing, you find yourself there for her.
  
  I hate to draw movie parallels for two of my reviews in a row. My last review contained references to Almost Famous. This week, it is another of my favorite movies, Prey for Rock and Roll. I don't really know if Jamie Briggeman is the same bitter-rock-chick-in-a-band the movie portrays. It was because of the lightly punk influenced sound of the band and powerful female lead vocals. I was waiting for Deedles to break into the song Ms Tweek, from the movie's fictional band, the Clam Dandys. Something about them had that very same sound. It never happened, but I think it easily could have.
  
  The Deedles were also really entertainers as well as musicians. Its not just about the music when you see Deedles perform. They connect with the audience. They are having a good time, and the audience can't help but join them. It is great to see a bass player with some life and Adam "Tarzano" Smith, has lots of life. Bouncing around and looking like he is having a grand time. Garrett Briggeman, on lead guitar, and husband to Jamie, lead singer, seemed very capable to do the wailing guitar solos. The originals the band performs are from the singer songwriter team of husband and wife.

  “I must admit this is the first I've ever heard of the Deedles, but I like their stuff. Very good instrumentals, especially the guitar licks. The main vocalist raspy voice works with these ballads. I hope to hear more from this band in the future. Highly recommended.”

"Postcards & Letters" features quieter guitar, as it tells the story of a romantic break up. "Every time that we're together/We find ourselves in some trouble we have to get out of."

  About the time I got really warmed up on the tire swing (a sincere apology to the woman who dared share it with me) the main act appeared on stage. It was my first time seeing The Deedles and I was very impressed. This four-piece wasted no time in getting down to business. Their sound is pure rock with lots of distortion, a sparkling pink guitar and heavy bass lines. My first Deedles experience left me hungry for more. Give them a listen, and Turbine too, I think you will be impressed. All in all it was a Saturday night full of firsts that I desperately needed.
