Artist Information

Biography

On the heels of their 3rd CD release "Orange", The Cranks will be featured among only 15 bands in the US to be on NBCUniversal-owned COZI TV's "Next Great Family Band" show. Air date Mar 17. Meadowbrook Cellular Pavilion (Gilford NH) has added The Cranks to their Magic Hat Performers Series for March!

The Cranks played their 100th show in Oct 2012 and collectively have performed live over 300 times. Their stage show amazes crowdsof all ages with their early-in-career confidence and always positive, upbeat sets.

In May, 2011, The Cranks released their second CD; "Downside Up", an energetic batch of one-of-a-kind lyric themes and stick-in-your-head melodies now beginning to be played on several college radio stations.

From the reviews -

"The Cranks ...have become a cohesive and mature trio, rattling off catchy and intelligent punk-influenced pop songs like afterthoughts. While the Cranks are a cohesive whole, their shining light is Haley Gowland, who is maturing into a convincing front-woman before your very ears. The Cranks have a real future. Downside Up is the proof." Wildys World 9/2011 **** 4 out of 5 stars.

"Think of The Pretenders when they first hit the scene
and you'll get an idea of where The Cranks are coming
from musically... [The Cranks] are proving to be
musical entities to be reckoned with. Good stuff." - Metronome Magazine 2/2012

Their sound is reminiscent of 90’s post punk rockers like the Pixies with the modern dynamics of Weezer and the power of Kings of Leon.

Their music is always appreciated by adult listeners but their fanbase is young; 47% age 13-17, 26% 18-24 and split evenly male/female (based on Facebook fan counts.)

Alex and Connor deliver a punchy, powerful groove and Haley's bright, clear vocals are beyond her age, their writing far more mature than expected for a teenage band. As a judge on Community Auditions Star of the Day in Feb ’10, Joyce Kulhawik (arts and entertainment anchor for Boston’s WBZ-TV News) called Haley a “triple threat” of great vocals, song writing and guitar playing.

"Showing much more poise than your average fourteen and fifteen-year olds, The Cranks write upbeat pop tunes with an alternative twist...The possibilities buzz in and around lead vocalist Haley Gowland who has a voice that fits in well with 1990's acts like Belly and Throwing Muses." - Wildy's World Blog 6/2010.

The Cranks are influenced by Kings of Leon, Counting Crows, 3rd Eye Blind, The Strokes, Guster, Jet, and Weezer.
