Mercy Bell moved to New York hardly knowing anyone, a duffle bag, an air mattress, and a guitar. She has a considerable amount more than that now, but likes to remind people that even with holes in your shoes and no friends, you can always make music.

Mercy grew up in a bohemian family of bookworms that split it's time between the beaches of Southern California and the seafaring coast of Massachusetts. Her first aspiration at age 8 was to spit far, drive trucks, and swear...and write musicals. Through college she worked for human rights and environmental causes, studying jazz voice and playing folk songs as an aside. Upon landing in Brooklyn, the musical revolution occurring in New York was too strong to resist, and she started to play weekly gigs solo, with others bands, or backing friends while still holding down a full time job.
