Biography

Dawson Reigns is the latest product of a creative fusion between rock influences and new country! Reigns influences include Garth Brooks, Travis Tritt, Montgomery Gentry, Def Leppard and Bon Jovi. Dawson’s live shows have fans moving from start to finish! Although Dawson has been singing and performing most of his life, he began his professional music career six years ago working the indie circuit in local bars and festivals across Ontario. During this time, Dawson was also recording and developing strong relationships in the music industry in Nashville....as well as taking advantage of every possible opportunity to perform, honing his skills as a vocalist, entertainer and songwriter. His hard work and dedication have begun to pay off on both sides of the border and around the world.

Multiple award winning music video director, Stephano Barberis (Arkadia Pictures Incorporated) has likely put it best when speaking of Dawson: “Rarely does an unsigned talent like this gain so much of my respect so quickly. From the moment of hearing Dawson’s music, my producer and I knew there was something magic here, and I’m sure this is the harbinger of all great established artists. I am convinced that we are seeing a very unique artist in the making – one whose impact will be rather massive in years to come.”

In 2007, Dawson was introduced to Jason Barry, one of Canada’s most respected producers. After meeting Dawson and listening to his music, Jason agreed to produce Dawson’s debut album at the Barrytone Studios in Waterloo, Ontario. Dawson’s debut single (If Crazy Wasn’t So Beautiful) was released to radio on January 11, 2010 and went Top 20 on the Canadian Country Charts. His debut album – ENJOY THE RIDE is now available on ITunes in Canada, USA, UK, Japan and Australia. Recently thanks to fans and radio in Australia he has received his first number one record for If Crazy Wasn’t So Beautiful. The full album is also available through his website.

Since releasing his debut single back in January. Dawson has followed up with two more singles – Empty Handed and Girl Next Door. In September 2010, Dawson was one of the chosen ones to perform at the New Artist Showcase in Edmonton, Alberta for Canadian Country Music Week. Following his time in Edmonton, Dawson returned home and quickly repacked his bag to head to the UK for his first radio tour. While in the UK, Dawson performed at the British Country Music Awards.

Recently Dawson signed a management agreement with the very talented Kathryn Hummel of Hummel Entertainment. 2010 has proven to be an amazing year for Dawson Reigns in his home land of Canada and abroad – in 2011, Dawson will continue to Enjoy The Ride with touring opportunities throughout Canada, the UK and Australia.

The answer might come as a surprise to you, but for those who are already familiar with this tone twanging rocker, the name Dawson Reigns already evokes images of steel guitars and pyrotechnics. Originally inspired by the heavy rock of Def Leppard, Dawson’s own sound, which has been compared to Jason Aldean and Montgomery Gentry, is a sharp mix of rock and new country that creates an intriguing, chord-crunching fusion.
  
  Hard work is synonymous with success and for Dawson Reigns, it’s well-deserved: “My development as an artist has been ongoing. I’ve always been a performer and as an avid hockey player, I’m quite comfortable under the spotlight and work well under the pressure of performing for an audience.” With his natural abilities fueling a career in country music, it’s no wonder this artist’s flair ignites under pressure; who needs pyrotechnics when you have this much talent?

  Now, we all know that unrestricted flames rise, but rarely do they garner as much airtime as this song heralding performer. And that’s not all, because like any blazingly talented artist, Dawson has many widespread aspirations that cannot be contained: “I’d like to get my music out on an international level and be known worldwide.” Already pursuing recognition in Australia and the UK, there’s no doubt that his success will soon catch on and spread like wildfire.

For many years Canada has enjoyed a healthy reputation for producing high quality alt.country, Celtic and roots rock acts, but all too often we’ve overlooked the excellent more mainstream country acts that have emerged from the North Country. Names that immediately spring to mind would have to include Michelle Wright, Charlie Major, Jason McCoy, Emerson Drive, Lisa Brokop and Terri Clark. You can add to that impressive list Kitchener-born Dawson Reigns. This is his debut album, but he comes across as seasoned performer with a rock-inflected modern country sound that places him up there alongside such major American stars as Toby Keith, Gary Allan, Trace Adkins, etc. Produced by Jason Barry at his Barrytone studios in Canada, this shows that you don’t have to go to Nashville to record high quality modern country music. ??From the opening track, If Crazy Wasn’t So Beautiful, this guy grabs you and holds on right through to the co-written closer Raise ’Em Up 34 minutes later. A fun-loving paean to his no-frills honky-tonkin’ girlfriend, this has a catchy chorus, driving electric lead and humorous lyrics about what this wild woman gets up to and whilst she is so addictive to him. From there he moves to the Girl Next Door, who turns from being a timid girl to a beer-drinking hell-raiser. He slows things down with the reflective Someone Watching Over Me in which he has finally found a woman who stays at home and looks after him despite his wild and carefree days. The title track has nice slide guitar and a superb vocal that helps make this a stunning track. In Hell of A Time we find a traditional country-rocker with lyrics that address some of the aspects of a relationship break-up in a tongue-in-cheek manner. That Ain’t Gonna Fly, a song previously recorded by Gary Allan, allows the crack studio band to let go a little on a track that sizzles with energy. Dawson’s vocal performance blends a great country twang with his natural Canadian accent, resulting in a high-pitched delivery great for the country-rock genre he captures with the musical arrangement. ??ENJOY THJE RIDE is a catchy, well-made album full of radio-friendly well-constructed songs and is definitely an album worth seeking out.
