Biography

Mojo Overload is a collaboration of some of the area’s most talented, award-winning players, providing a new voice to some old classics, introducing some new originals, and adding their own twist to just about everything in between!

Comprised of Debbie Myre (Lead vocals, who occasionally doubles on bass or keyboards), Don ‘Big D’ Swensen (bass & vocals), Jerry Wainhouse (drums & vocals), Kent beatty (guitar/keyboards & vocals) and David Barker (keyboards/guitar & vocals), Mojo Overload has started down the road to becoming one of the northwest’s hottest new bands. Having the versatility to combine dual keyboards, dual guitars, five vocals, or just about any other combination, the band is moving into areas not usually tackled by traditional 5-piece bands. Multi-part vocal harmonies, funky horn sections (even without real horns), double harmony guitars…it’s all within reach, and this band is going after it.

After only 12 hours of rehearsal, Mojo Overload debuted at the Swiss Pub in Tacoma on Valentine’s Day 2010, for the Breast Cancer Blues benefit. Reaction was very positive, and the band has continued to develop and grow from there. Debbie Myre has been called “…one of the best voices around”, and after their appearance at the 2010 Tacoma Old Town Blues Festival, promoter Ted Brown was quoted as saying “They [Mojo Overload] were on first, but they should have been the headliners”! Since then, the band has been booking shows and gaining notoriety and popularity throughout the Puget Sound area, and even extending their reach to the Seattle market, with a show scheduled at the Hard Rock Cafe on March 24, 2012. Focusing their efforts on select club venues, festivals, multi-band, and specialty shows, their performances have been garnering bigger audiences and better reviews with each passing show.

Since their debut in 2010, they have had the honor of sharing the stage with some of the best talent from the Pacific Northwest and beyond, including such greats as The Fabulous Wailers, Randy Hansen, The Jerry Miller Band w/ Lee Oskar, Big Nasty, The Red Hot Blues Sisters, The Stacy Jones Band, Junkyard Jane, The Randy Oxford Band, The Kim Archer Band, Cee Cee James, Blues Redemption, Maia Santell, Dana Lupinacci…and more! In February of 2011, they filmed a segment for Blues To Do TV at 88 Keys in Seattle, followed by a request from the 88 Keys management to come back and do a full night.

With an eye towards opening for nationally touring bands, and more, Mojo Overload continues to refine their show and stretch their limits. New original material is in the works, and a new CD will hopefully be following soon, on the heels of their recently released, 6-song EP CD “Preloaded”.
