Biography
Yogoman hails from Planet Yog, where ridiculous, quirky, nonsensical dancing is the way of the walk. Jordan Rain of Bellingham, WA took the name Yogoman as his DJ moniker in 1998, as a way to turn the average Northwest reclusive and introspective sensibility outward. Beginning with an eclectic range of musical genres from soul to punk, DJ Yogoman found a love for Jamaican music, with its playful, laid-back, yet intense, and steadily danceable rhythms. Yogoman recognized Jamaica’s music as being well received by all ages and many backgrounds of humans.
With his background in the NW underground/all-ages music scene of the early 90's, being the drummer of Seattle's legendary punk/hardcore/noise group Behead The Prophet No Lord Shall Live who headlined bills with Modest Mouse, Murder City Devils and the Blood Brothers. Playing with various bands since, and DJing since '98, Rain finally formed his own dance band Yogoman Burning Band (YBB) in 2006 in Bellingham, WA. YBB’s latest sound showcases vocals and horns over a prominent drum and bass foundation building on inspiration from Jamaican, New Orleans Brass, Hip Hop, Soul, and early R&B music, taking it to the streets in marching formation at times.
YBB has won the heart of the northwest corner populace by taking awards for Best Band by Cascadia Weekly for 2 years, and Best Booty Shakin’ Music from What’s Up Music Magazine for the past 6 years. YBB has toured with Iron and Wine, collaborated on stage with Blue Scholars, Pato Banton (British Dancehall Legend) and many West Coast M.C.'s, while sharing the stage with the Skatalites, RJD2, the Cave Singers, Orgone, Pretty Girls Make Graves, Dengue Fever, Heliosequence, and Clinton Fearon of the Gladiators. YBB is well established down the west coast USA, while making a national/international presence since 2006.
