Biography

Sad Face is a five piece rock band from Seattle, Washington. Garnering comparisons of bands such as Low, the Pixies, and Radiohead, their moody and melodic sound is diverse and dynamic, running the gamut from soft, harmony driven pop-tunes to chaotic, dissonant noise rock.

In their short career, the have accomplished the following:

-Voted "Best New Band" in Seattle Magazine's 2011 Reader's Poll.
-Voted The Stranger's "Band of the Week" on April 28th 2012.
-Voted The Deli Seattle's "Band of the Month" for October 2012.
-Had the opportunity to play with amazing bands such as Ramona Falls (Barsuk), Mt. St. Helens Vietnam Band (Dead Oceans), Thousands (Bella Union) and many others.

Sad Face released their debut album, "Gosh Darn!", in May of 2011 with standout tracks "Death Boy", "To Use Another", "The Angel" and "Sapphire Noise" garnering airplay on Seattle's world famous independent radio station, KEXP. They quickly followed up their debut album with a diverse four-song EP, "Cheer Yourself Up," featuring the single "Red Chair."

  Sad Face is a Seattle band with a bracing sound, reminiscent in places of Mclusky (opener "Death Boy...Sad Face is a Seattle band with a bracing sound, reminiscent in places of Mclusky (opener "Death Boy" has that slashing lead guitar-with-punk backbeat) and in others of older-school punk... but they're not content to play in the punk quadrant exclusively. There is a lot of diversity to their sound and, one imagines, their influences and for me, this record holds up really well.
  
  The second song, "To Use Another", is driving guitar rock that's easy to like, as it chugs along at a measured pace, breaking out into a couple of guitar freakouts:
  
  
  
  There's plenty of sonic variety and obvious talent, and I expect this record to make my year end Top 20 (there's a hint for you to stay tuned - my list won't be as long as Rocksteady's but hopefully it will help you find some stuff). I love how this band just takes over a room and fills it up with their varied sounds. Plus I enjoy listening to their recordings – it doesn’t always happen that I’ll like a band live and recorded. You just never know how the difference will move you, or not. I am thrilled Sad Face played our show at the Blue Moon, and captured the entire space with their brilliance and mood. They’ll have an EP release show for Cheer Yourself Up at the High Dive on March 3rd. Be there.

  Sad Face is a Seattle band playing real good rock music that alternates between the moody sounds of, say, Low and the more rocking, rollicking pace of, say, The Pixies. It's all pretty heavy and very well-played. Those are good influences to be sure, and I'm not just throwing them out there. These guys are talented - they're getting some notice on KEXP (which is where I first heard them) and their notoriety is growing beyond their homebase in the Pacific Northwest. Back in November I got to hear and really enjoy their 2011 album Gosh Darn! - review here.
