Biography

From a less fortunate life all the way to a successful music career, the last few years have been an amazing adventure for Jason D. Frazier professionally known as MAFF TEST, always knew that the music business would make way in his life for as long as he could remember. Unlike many young adults growing up less fortunate in a single parent home, TEST would never allow this type of stigma to slow him up from what his ultimate goal was and that is to make a name for himself as a recording artist and songwriter.

When asked the details of the hood or city he was from, TEST simply states that he was from "Harvey" and then tells reporters to do their own research and be the judge. We found Harvey to be a poverty stricken suburban city of 3 or 4 projects, corrupted law enforcement, complete with gang and drug pollution. Later in life, TEST’s would be nicknamed YOUNG HARVEY, since he is the first to represent their city by "putting it on the map." While he doesn’t talk much about his painful early years, fans learn about his childhood as his struggles are often expressed through his songs.

In the early days of rap, TEST wrestled with the transition from the streets to the music industry, although it was obvious right from the start, he had a way with words. MAFF was not at first inclined to choose music, "its a gift i was chosen to be given". Hustling simply to survive, he sought the few extras in other income producing forms that he believed he could not obtain working at a 9 to 5, hard work and risk here & there. Before long, he was addicted to the fast life, one that provided not only for himself, but for his family as well. But, his family and friends observed his incredible ability to create, not only a verse here and there, but richly filled complete songs with very little effort. 

With critics saying his skills are beyond equal to many of today's acts, he is a true lyricist delivering incredible narration of not only the streets but night life and plenny more. He combines pain and struggle through clever metaphors fueled by raw energy and confidence. After moving to Atlanta a year ago and benefiting from the progressive flow of the rap scene with help from the likes of DJ Khaled on Big Bizness; Volume 1, Test is back adding and multiplying his buzz with his second mixtape, Big Bizness; Volume 2 and the message is clearly one that everyone can relate to: “It don’t come like that”.
Currently on tour with stops in The Bay Area, Ohio, Indiana, Jacksonville and New York, Maff Test is on a mission to make his sound known, which he describes as well rounded and versatile enough to reach a broad audience. “You may hear one song that sounds completely different than another song. My music is like gumbo,” a well rounded variety.

Previously released a mixtape with the infamous dj khaled entitled big bizness vol 1. & vol 1.5 by dj cartune. Maff has promoted singles like "come like that" which received radio airplay in 9+ markets rapidly as well as being campaigned in the streets with stickers,flyers,posters,vehicle wraps etc.. Big biz vol 2 is in the making while maff promotes his latest single entitled "MADE OF" feat. Jon Wain which has received great feed back since its recent release

  Maff’s name pretty much speaks for itself – “They call me MAFF cause I clock that, TEST is what life...Maff’s name pretty much speaks for itself – “They call me MAFF cause I clock that, TEST is what life is and you can tell I pass that every time the light hit and my shit’s gotta add up”.
  
  A self described “individual with the soul of an old man”, Rapper/Songwriter/Businessman Maff Test came from the poverty stricken streets of Harvey, Illinois and took his life by the horns, morally and financially to create a better situation to negotiate his talent by creating Lockout Records to move his music.
  
  
  So what do hard work, perseverance and business smarts add up to? Serious buzz for mixtape Big Bizness; Volume 2.

It may not work the first time but always try again” he says. With radio spins in Chicago, the song is already creating buzz for the very humble and mature 24 year old.

  Maff Test: Harvey, South side of Chicago.
  
  Wordonthestreetsmag.com: What brought you to Atlanta? How long have you been here?
  
  Maff Test: I’ve been back and forth for a little over a year now but permanently several months. I moved to Atlanta because it’s the new home for music if you ask me.
  
  Wordonthestreetsmag.com: What is the difference between the music scene in Chicago and the one here in Atlanta?
  
  Maff Test: As far as talent wise I don’t think there is too much of a difference, except we slightly lack the unity so it’s less powerful of a movement.
  
  Wordonthestreetsmag.com: So who did you network with to get your movement started in Atlanta?
  
  Maff Test: Drumma Boy & Shawty Redd, so it’s been good people embracing me like their own. I would like to say that I have been adopted and inducted by the Atlanta scene.
  
  Wordonthestreetsmag.com: How long have you been rapping?
  
  Maff Test: Seriously for a couple of years now but I actually have been rapping since I was kid.
  
  Wordonthestreetsmag.com: Talk to us about your latest project, what is the current song or album that you are pushing?
  
  Maff Test: Well the current song that I’m pushing right now is “Come like that”. It’s a single, were going to radio with it as well and there’s a street anthem titled “The Definition”. The project as a whole is big business volume 1 and volume 2.
  
  Wordonthestreetsmag.com: Are those mix albums or are those LP albums?
  
  Maff Test: They are Mixtapes that we are kind of treating like albums.
  
  Wordonthestreetsmag.com: You are lyrical and your swag is a lot different then what’s coming from out of the south. How are other rappers embracing you and what message do you hope to get across in your music?
  
  Maff Test: I mean other rappers say “I like what I hear, and I like what you are doing”. So it’s a vision for them, if they see you moving powerful with a movement they don’t mind linking up with you. With the two projects I like to call it gumbo because I’m showing them different diversity and styles. I want the music to introduce who I am as an artist.

  HipHopWired: Test can you take some time to introduce the world to who you are and where your origin...HipHopWired: Test can you take some time to introduce the world to who you are and where your origins came from for those that don't know.
  Maff Test: Maff Test, also known as Young Harvey, out of Southside Chicago.
  Maff came from the old school of clocking math and test came from my view on life and that it is a test. So it's pass or failure depending on your work ethic. That's the whole concept of where that came from. I'm a rapper/songwriter for Hip-Hop /R&B, but I am primarily a rapper; an actual lyricist.
  HipHopWired: The term “lyricist” has been used loosely as of late so what establishes a rapper as a lyricist?
  Maff Test: I feel a lyricist is an artist that has actual substance to their music as opposed to just trying to make a hit record for people to dance to. They're actually putting their heart into their work and a majority of the time it's real life experiences and it's cleverly put together as far as their rhyme scheme, word combinations, etc.
  HipHopWired: What do you think separates you from the rest of the pack in the world of Hip-Hop?
  Maff Test: I bring a sense of security. I think, not even in music but the people that we influence which is our youth because a lack of security is being uncomfortable with yourself because they are too built on being what people expect them to be. I am comfortable with being myself and bringing that forth with my music as far as actuality and just giving people real stories to hang on to. I think that they hold on to you longer when you're giving them yourself because it's not going to change.
  HipHopWired: You have the mixtape Big Business. What else are you currently working on?
  Maff Test: I got a single that was just released to the streets and the radio as well. I got a single and a street anthem that we are pushing pretty heavy right now. The single is entitled, “Come Like That” and the street anthem is called “The Definition.”
  “Come Like That” is basically something that you took and made into something. It didn't necessarily come like that whether it's a car you bought and turned it into something custom that you wanted or a chick that could have been from the hood and you turned her onto the good life and she didn't necessarily come like that as it is something that you did. So it's really just putting forth effort to do something.
  “The Definition” takes a loosely used profane word and gives it some definition to enlighten people a little bit on it being offensive. It defines the word “motherfu**er” and how we use it as it can be used plenty of different ways. In the record it was used in a way to show love to people that supported me through my upbringing.

Frazier, on September 20, 1984, TEST endured a disturbed childhood before experiencing anything remotely resembling what we perceive as success. Providing the briefest details about being neglected at an early age by his mother, who suffered with an addiction and an absent father who was around only from time to time, had it not been for his grandmother, he might have become a ward of the state. Raised in a religious - low income household, he would often keep to himself, deep in thought about how he could make it out of his current living situation.

Seeing his huge potential, they encouraged him to take music more seriously. However, TEST felt that rapping wouldn’t pay him what he yearned for, although “rap” was in his blood. Before long he began investing his free time in his music, all while continuing to work on alternative forms of income.
  
  It wasn’t until 2003 when Lockout Recording Studio was established by TEST that he began recording his own music and completing hit records. To subsidize a legitimate income, he got involved in real estate and later rented out the studio to local and national artists at an hourly rate, which gave him the freedom to continue with his music. With very few influences in his life, TEST had no problem staying focused and looked only to himself for inspiration. With the hottest producer anyone could find by his side, it was only a matter of time before he would become known. To say that MAFF TEST has since achieved many goals would be an understatement, although along the way he lost many associates who only slowed him down with mediocrity.
  
  In his highly anticipated album, "Fail or Succeed," TEST displayed the characteristics of a "TRUE RAP HEAVYWEIGHT." With critics saying his skills are beyond equal to many of today's acts, he is a true lyricist delivering incredible narration of street/night life. He combines pain and struggle through clever metaphors fueled by raw energy and confidence. To quote TEST: “I bring forth significant realism and add in a sense of security that demonstrates I’m not afraid to be myself. People accept you as you are, not some made up image that appears as something you’re not. Many artists are too busy trying to live up to public expectations or try to be what they think man wants him to be, look like, act like or sound like as opposed to being their own unique selves. To me, there’s no need to try to change my past…. I am what I am, who I was and where I’m from. It is what it is. The way I look at it RAP was a way out for me and that works.”
  
  TEST has since recorded and released the mixed tape Big Bizness, Volume 1, hosted by DJ Khaled, complete with 31 tracks. In 2008, he had 20 thousand copies duplicated and replicated and at least 2,500 in house copies created with a CD Duplicator. The sale of Big Bizness Volume 1 increased street sales and revenue for Lockout Records, dramatically allowing the company TEST owned to double its gross income compared to the prior year.
  
  MAFF TEST has traveled from state to state with a dozen of his childhood friends and supporters, who either share the same dream or drastically believe in him as an artist. He has given his pals a chance to get away from the hood and see something different by traveling to places like Miami, Atlanta, New York, California, Ohio and Arizona, all while selling mixed tapes and campaigning for his music.  He targets areas where he believes people will understand and adopt his music and lifestyle, hitting all major events where large crowds gather such as super bowl weekends, Hip Hop awards and Memorial Day weekends thus making CD sales far easier.  He treats his mixed tapes much like albums, releasing videos, documentaries and singles such as Big Bizness, Bos Ville and Flip Rock.
  
  With all the things going on in the world many things are uncertain, but one thing is for sure: the industry is desperately in need of the fresh breath of air this young, talented, ex-hustler has to offer, so stay tuned for a lot more from MAFF TEST.

  Fresh off the release of his new single “Come Like That” which is receiving radio spins across the c...Fresh off the release of his new single “Come Like That” which is receiving radio spins across the country, Maff Test aka Young Harvey sent the crowd gathered at Throwback’s Sports Center in College Park in a frenzy when he hit the stage performing his smash hit single.
  
  During the warm April night, hundreds packed into the club on the Southside to watch many aspiring artists display their talent to an elite list of industry pros looking to possibly sign their next big act. His high impact performance had the crowd on their feet as he delivered the irresistible hook “Come Like That” over the melodic beat produced by hit maker John Wain. “This dude is a poet, to have a flow like that is just crazy” proclaimed Tony Walker, a veteran of the hip hop culture.
