Two uniques creations in one package!
< Hesse's Nasty 9 >
Fulfilling the moderne standards of 1900 and beyond. With a unique yet familiar repertoire, Hesse’s Nasty 9 is on a mission of perpetuating traditional American music with extreme diversity and cockeyed yet respectful renderings of beloved favorites.
With eight horns, drums, bass, guitar and two singers, Hesse's Nasty 9 begins their performances by parading through the audience like a Mardi Gras parade. However, their repertoire may come as a surprise...Dixieland, Broadway, classic rock, heavy metal, Beethoven, Jazz and more infect their set list.
< Satch! >
...a tribute to American treasure Louis Armstrong
With dazzling virtuosity on the trumpet and an innovative singing style, Louis Armstrong was the fountainhead of a thoroughly original American sound. An energetic presentation, fresh musical arrangements and anecdotes of Armstrong's life paint a picture of the musician, the singer and the entertainer that was Satchmo.
Backed by Chris Heslop and Hesse’s Nasty 9, listeners enjoy classic Satchmo hits rendered in a unique style, yet with roots firmly planted in tradition by lifelong entertainer and Armstrong devotee, Joe Keys.
The show opens with an overture of Armstrong’s earliest top ten hits “Muskrat Ramble,” “Struttin’ With Some Barbecue,” “St. James Infirmary” and others. Trumpeteers Rob Diener and John Swana belt out several authentic Satchmo solos over a swingin’ eleven-piece band. The burning fast “Swing That Music” is performed complete with Satchmo’s astounding forty-two high C’s and ending note of high Eb!
The show continues as Keys masterfully performs highlights from Louis’s songbook like “What a Wonderful World,” “Hello Dolly,” and the first scat tune “Heebie Jeebies.” Vocalist Sharon Bailey adds some musical high jinks when she and Louis perform several numbers together.
The finale includes a Mardi Gras-like
fanfare in honor of the great Satchmo.
