Biography

With her signature red Mohawk, vintage shop style and school-girl voice, 22 year-old singer Eryn Woods is ready to dominate the world with her eclectic brand of Pop-Rock. Her music has already been featured on Vh1 and MTV and she has an endorsement deal with Betsey Johnson, where she does meet-and-greets, makes in-store appearances, as well as performs at boutiques throughout the country. As the queen of the “Kupcake” brigade, a term she coined to define her “sweet, fun and diverse” fan base, Woods musical and fashion influence on young Kupcakes is spreading around the globe.

Born in Shreveport, Louisiana, Woods can’t recall a time when she wasn’t involved in the arts. She sang in her church choir, participated in musical theater and was enrolled in dance, acting and singing lessons, all of which taught her the key elements to fame: etiquette, politeness and grooming. Woods, who fell in love with the art of performing at 4 years old, had a musical epiphany as a teenager. Seeing NSYNC, Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera in concert only reinforced her interest in being a world-class entertainer. She moved to Cincinnati, Ohio at age 11 where she spent her formative school years and received vocal training at the Musical Arts Center. Upon graduating high school, Woods moved back down south and immediately began exploring opportunities within the music industry. She worked odd jobs in radio, as well as assisted managers and promoters in an effort to propel her career. In 2005, Woods reached the semi-finals of the nationally televised Idol-esque singing competition Gospel Dream, where she was lauded each week by Platinum-selling singer and songwriter Kelly Price. Woods gained recognition and followers, preparing her for the greatness she was destined to have.

In 2007, Woods scored a music business gig and relocated to New York; where she literally did music (sang background vocals) and business (supported the artist and manager with day-to-day operations). Through that experience Woods made numerous industry contacts, one of which became her current music producer, ARC with Pharsound Productions (Ke$ha, Kings of Leon, Shiny Toy Guns, Black Kids, Scissors Sisters), where they collectively decided to move to Atlanta and focus their energies on her solo project. The talented pair spent several months working on music, as well as Woods collaborating with songwriter Ursula Yancy who penned Rhianna’s hit record “Skin” from her multi-platinum album Loud. The dynamic duo came up with the infectious monster jam “Gangstas, Geeks and Freaks.” The polished, slick and dance-oriented track become the lead single from Wood’s self-financed debut EP Holl.E.Woods, which is an ode to the unapologetic underbelly of a city decorated by society’s outcasts, led by Woods herself. Also a play on her name, Holl.E.Woods is a brilliant and unorthodox concept album full of ambitious singles that are redefining the sound of an entire generation.

Playing numerous gigs and parties, the relatable black swan of the bubble gum world, Woods has shared the stage with the likes of Robyn, Hey Monday and The Ready Set. She has also performed at a variety of important PRIDE Festivals across the map, making the hyper-ambitious Woods somewhat of a global ambassador for tolerance and positive change. When she’s not working on perfecting her craft, Woods can be found speaking to middle and high school students on topics such as self-acceptance and bullying; two subjects she is painfully familiar with. Just like Woods herself, her music is diverse, honest, intellectual, charming and entertaining. When you look past the hair, the clothes, the make-up and the piercings, you can see a young girl who promised herself that she would never stop pushing until she made her dreams of becoming an internationally-known superstar a reality. Her future has finally arrived.

  It's not all that difficult to locate budding Atlanta pop princess Eryn Woods in the lunch hour crow...It's not all that difficult to locate budding Atlanta pop princess Eryn Woods in the lunch hour crowd at Panera Bread in Buckhead. For starters, she's the only customer in the joint with a crimson mohawk, nose ring and a purple bow resting atop her head with matching fingernail polish.
  
  With her new EP, "Holl. E. Woods" just a few hours away from hitting the iTunes store and retailers, Woods is finding it difficult not to vibrate out of her chair, let alone focus on her soup and salad. The 21-year-old Louisiana native has every reason to be excited. The six-song release, filled with hypnotic beats, jagged edges of guitars and lyrics filled with a fierce independent streak is the ideal windows down, radio blasting summer soundtrack. And it doesn't hurt that this girl can saaaaang either.
  
  Tonight at 9 p.m., Woods will demonstrate live at her album release party for "Holl. E. Woods" at the Drunken Unicorn at 736 Ponce de Leon Ave in Midtown.
  
  With Lady Gaga as the current reigning queen of pop, it's not a bad time to be Eryn Woods, a girl who grew up listening to Cyndi Lauper and Madonna albums and sang her way into the semi finals of the reality show "Gospel Dream" where she caught the ear of Atlanta Grammy nominee Kelly Price. Unlike most of the pre-packaged pop stars currently winning Grammys who can't actually sing on the same awards telecast live (we're talking to you, Taylor Swift), Woods has pipes to spare.
  
  "It's one of the things I really take pride in," she says. "I've been doing this my entire life. It's all I know. I don't know what I would do in life if I wasn't singing. I feel like the entire reason I was put on this earth is to sing, make music and to entertain people."
  
  Her new single, "This My Shhh" has blown up, thanks to a fun, come hither video posted on YouTube and a lead off position on the season finale of the MTV reality hit "Jersey Shore."
  
  "I was on tour in San Francisco the night the season finale premiered," Woods recalls. "When I got off stage, I couldn't figure out why I had all these Facebook friend requests and why my phone had blown up with voice mails and texts. In one month, the video has had 10,000 new hits. That's amazing for an unsigned artist. And because the show is OnDemand, it's been running forever! It's been an incredibly cool way to get my music introduced to people."
  
  Lyrically, the tune tip-toes right up to and flirts with using a naughty word without a Cee Lo trip back into the studio to edit out a certain F-word in order to perform your hit on the Grammys with the Muppets.
  
  "If we had actually used the word, it would have limited the song in some way," Woods explains. "By not using it, my mom drives around in her Mini Cooper blaring that song with my 13 and 11 year-old brothers in the back seat. I've always said I want everyone to be listen to my music. I don't want to exclude anyone."
  
  Woods also communicates directly with her fans (delectably nicknamed Kupcakes) via Facebook and Twitter where her young listeners thank her for floating outside the mainstream. Relates Woods: "This young girl just wrote to me on Facebook and thanked me for being me and for showing her that it's OK to stand up for being different. Through my music, she heard that you don't have to change who you are for the world, for guys or to fit in. That touched me so much. That's the reason I do this."
  
  Her female fans are also responding to "Laughin' At Ya," a playful kiss off to an ex on "Holl. E. Woods." "The reaction to that song has been so unexpected!" she says. "When I recorded it, I felt every word."
  
  So, is there any one individual she visualizes when she performs "Laughin' At Ya?" "Oh, I visualize every man who has ever screwed me over," says Woods laughing. "You should have seen me in the vocal booth recording that. I was in there, flinging my arms, screaming, dancing, moving my head. Once women begin getting successful, these guys come crawling back out of no where. The song is saying, 'Guess what? If I wasn't good enough to be with back then, you don't deserve to be with me now.' I was really talking to that person too. We were able to capture the emotion of that experience. Don't let the red mohawk fool you. I'm a normal girl who gets heartbroken just like everyone else. The cool thing is I get to go into the studio and say something about it."

  name is Eryn Woods. Out to change the image of pop music, Eryn is absolutely
  bringing something fresh. A talented singer who is clearly influenced by such talented
  artists as Gwen Stefani, Pink, and Fergie, Eryn could quite possibly be the next
  superstar pop sensation.
  
  My favorite song by Erin is “This My Shhh” because it’s so energetic and full of sass.
  On the song she tells us to “call the radio to request my shhh…” which, quite frankly,
  we should because the song deserves to be there. The song has a lot of club appeal
  and is highly recommended for those who like today’s Top 40 hits.
  
  Another song I liked from Eryn’s collective hits is “Fantastic Breakup”, where Eryn
  proclaims in the song’s chorus, “This has got to be the best break up ever.” In the
  song the singer shares how she has experienced a number of heated arguments with
  a significant other to the point of her leaving the relationship, but when they make up
  its “fantastic”; hence the title of the song, Fantastic Breakup.
