The Winnebagos of Death are the result of crossing of two quite different musical paths.
On one path is Nenad , the lead singer and rhythm guitarist who had spent last ten years writing songs influenced by alt.country music he got obsessed with while living in Seattle.
On the other path is Phil, the lead guitarist. Phil played in Luz Atomica, a Toronto-based psychedelic/shoegazer outfit.
Nenad was the fan of Luz Atomica and when the band broke up in 2006, he approached Phil in order to form a band to breathe a new life into the songs he wrote on the acoustic guitar in his bedroom.
The result was a mix of country, Exile on Main street style rockers, alternative rock and more musically adventurous sounds employing feedback and other guitar effects evoking the Velvets and Sonic Youth
The Winnebagos of Death have been together for little more than four years and have played shows at various Toronto clubs and bars. In these four years, there were quite a few personnel changes. Currently, besides Nenad and Phil, the band members are Eyal and Veikko both members of Luz Atomica, on drums and bass and Sarah Wallace on vocals.
