Biography

Imagine yourself at a tea party in Alice's Wonderland, but Alice is Alanis, Charles Dickens is the Mad Hatter, and Florence Welch is leading them all in song with heart beat rhythms and heart break lyrics.

Such is the dynamic and emotive blend of dark and light sounds that characterize this Ethereal Indie Rocker hailing from the East Coast of Canada. Dubbed “The Indie Firecracker” for her progressive leaning compositions and explosive vocal performances, Morrison (who enjoys challenging structure and rules in all areas of life) consistently receives the stamp of “Originality” and nods of approval from acclaimed songwriters, such as Dan Hill, Emm Gryner, Ron Hynes, and music fans alike.

Now based in Toronto, Morrison has celebrated two self-produced indie albums and has made several appearances on various compilation albums and records by other local artists, such as Heather Hill's recent “Leuty Station” release. She has also had the honour of being invited by local promoters to perform in such notable festivals as Canadian Music Week and the upcoming Toronto Pride Festival (Meghan appears on the “Clean, Sober, and Proud Place” stage at the Paul Kane Parkette on July 1st at 8pm).

With a penchant for naming albums after life phases, rather than song phrases “[Lark] We Are All Born Naked” (released in 2011) represents the exposed and bare feeling of starting over, alone, in a world that is totally new to the person that threw themselves in it and the forgiveness they owe to themselves to get through it. “Hush” and “This Song”, which are fan favourites, illustrate this “phase” best and Meghan hopes others who are in need of acceptance and forgiveness will find personal value in the songs.

With a desire to grow as an artist and reach new audiences, Morrison has started preparations to take her record release on the road across Canada and the US in the spring/summer of 2013 and will also be embracing an opportunity to blend her lilting 3 octave vocal range into more a urban collaboration with producer Stevano Ugo of the Juno and Canadian Radio Music Award nominated U.G.O Crew.

In the case of Meghan Morrison I always knew that she was good but before yesterday, I didn’t really know how good she was.
  
  It’s been about a year since I Meghan Morrison has been on TOSRadio, and in that time I’ve become pretty well acquainted with her music to the point that I don’t even need to look at my Zune HD to know which of her songs that I’m listening to. Having said that, to my own surprise and disappointment up until yesterday, I had yet to actually see her perform live. Now having seen her perform live, it has brought a brand new element to my listening experience; I now have a whole new appreciation her talent and music that she brings to the table. Her voice always reminds me of a young Alanis Morissette, with her own distinctive style and presence of course.
  
  The first track “We are all born naked” is a great one, a nice upbeat message. Then right into the second track “The Weather Girl” which is a completely different pace, and very original! I have to say that “Hush” is one of my favorites; I find it to be a strong ballad, showcasing her skills to the utmost, a very powerful song that draws you in.

Her song ‘Long Way’ reminds me of Patti Smith with its spoken word bits: “Salad bar religion, debt for education, believing what they say on television … We’ve come a long way baby, we’ve come along!” It is 1:30 a.m. when Meghan ends her set.
