Biography

Carol Teal & David Joyce
Carol and David create a dynamic musical duo performing original songs of life’s delights and dilemmas! They engage audiences with their thoughtful and witty lyrics, tight harmonies and wide variety of instrumentation (guitars, mandolin, banjo, washboard, harmonica & feather boa!) Serious, sensitive and audaciously funny with a side of vaudeville thrown in for good measure.

* 2 independent CDs, “Some Things You Do for Love” and ‘Simple Pleasures both produced and recorded by Paul Mills with a stellar cast of musicians.

* David has lived from coast to coast in Canada and traveled many parts of the world as a mineral collector. His songwriting reflects his love of the guitar as his first instrument and adds his skills on harmonica and banjo to the duo’s performances.

* Carol's passion for songwriting has won her two Honor Awards in the Great American Songwriting Competition. Sure to keep you smilin’ Carol plays guitar, mandolin (and feather boa) in performance.

Carol & David have conducted song-writing and workshops for audience participants at the Mariposa Folk Festival for the last five years. They have also conducted many songwriting and visual arts workshops with students in Canada's far North with the ArtsCan Circle program. Workshop participants are engaged in hands-on writing and art experiences with a focus on letting the creative spirit soar, facilitating self-expression and empowering the artist in us all. Discuss your festival’s needs with them and they can design a workshop to fit the bill.

Carol and David are happy to offer songwriting workshop sessions for children and adults at festivals and have a wide array of children’s music and art activities to add to any festival.

Carol is also a visual artist who works in a variety of media. She is currently crazy about clay and is an active member of the Pine Tree Potter's Guild in Aurora, ON.

Carol and David have both been very involved with the ArtsCan Circle organization since 2005 and in May 2008 Carol became the organization’s first Executive Director. ArtsCan Circle is a charity dedicated to linking creative artists with Indigenous youth at risk in remote northern Canadian communities. The goal of the organization is encouraging self-esteem in Indigenous youth through a cooperative exploration of the arts. For more information please visit the ArtsCan Circle website at www.artscancircle.ca.

Communication is where it's at for Carol whether it's music, art or communication therapy. She holds a Masters degree in Speech Pathology and has been a certified speech-language therapist for 20 years. Music has always played a role in her communication therapy sessions and helps bridge the communication barriers of language disabilities and autism.

A little laughter, a little blues, served up with love and compassion for the human state, David & Carol’s performance has something for everyone in their audience.

“When it's raining outside, put them in the CD player and you'll see the sun.”
Vince McNeil, Airtight Music Management – MC at Eaglewood Folk Festival 2005
