Biography

Many bands in New York City’s rock scene have been together longer than L-SKI, yet few can match the vivacity and originality this promising young quartet brings to the stage one live show after the next. L-SKI (pronounced el-skee) has been compared to early incarnations of Steely Dan, Led Zeppelin, and Yes, fused with 90's influences such as the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Stone Temple Pilots. But there’s an undeniable freshness in the band’s three-part vocal harmonies, snaking guitar licks and funky percussion grooves that leaves fans and critics struggling to place them in the context of any band from recent years.

Formed in 2007, L-SKI is the brainchild of Rhode Island natives, and fellow front-men, Ben DeFusco and Jake Wolfgang. The songwriting duo shares vocal duties, while DeFusco mans the guitar and Wolfgang rocks keys and percussion. Bassist and fellow Rhode Islander, Chad Flaherty establishes solid ground with his funky pocket and tone. Drummer and longtime friend, Steve Purcell came to NYC via the jazz scene of Columbus, Ohio. He can be heard on various Tony Monaco recordings, and continues to pursue studio sessions in New York.

Since their official inception in New York City, the band has seen continued success. They have appeared at numerous NYC venues including the Knitting Factory, Crash Mansion, and the Canal Room, and they are regulars at the legendary Bitter End, rocking a sold out show there on New Year’s Eve 2009. L-SKI concerts in their home state of Rhode Island garner sell-out crowds as well. They have been known to play deep into the night at such venues as The Ocean Mist, Lupos, and The Wheel House.

In March 2011, L-SKI defeated 51 other bands to earn the title of No Contracts Needed '11 Rompetition champions in Boston (MA), and their first full-length album is scheduled for release in the summer of 2011. When DeFusco is not playing with L-SKI, he is on tour as the lead guitarist for international superstar, Wyclef Jean. DeFusco has been touring with Jean for over two years and has played with the likes of Bono, Santana, Akon, and Mary J. Blige. Ben can also be found playing guitar on Justin Bieber’s number one selling album “My World 2.0”, and "Someone to Love Me", a track off P. Diddy's new album, "Last Train to Paris".
