Born in British Columbia, Canada, Meagan Maria grew up with an insatiable love of music and an endearing curiosity. Her immersion started at an early age, with extensive training in classical and jazz, along with traditional composing, singing, and performing.
Yet Meagan Maria's foundations soon clashed with a passion for world music and a knack for innovation. In university, she traversed into a genre all her own, one which many describe as a cultural intersection, a creative mix of Latin sounds and earthly rhythms.
Her sensual voice along with rhythmic piano styles, along with a unique approach to blending different expressions of world music, have made her a welcome performer with Cuban music groups such as Son de Cuba and Grupo Tradicion.
She has performed in the Victoria Mexican Cultural Festival 2009, Latin Heat 2010, TD Victoria Jazzfest 2010 and has headlined countless shows within Victoria including shows at leading jazz and salsa clubs.
Her intoxicating style shines in songs such as “Flavour,” which hints at an unlikely marriage of Latin and swing. Other tracks, such as "Manojo de Arena" strive to sooth and lift the soul, with a timeless spirit and engaging beat.
Her compositions dance through four languages and a range of styles. She refashions Cuban salsa, Brazilian Samba and Afro-Caribbean grooves into an upbeat, sultry, pop-forward dance music, an artistic achievement with Latin allure—as intoxicating as a blender full of margaritas.
