Biography
Comprised of musicians from southern California, Ohio, Mississippi, and Colorado TUBBY packs elements of funk and rock and soul into a high-energy show that has turned many a weekend night into legend. Club shows with Fishbone, Common Sense, The B-Side Players and Blue Oyster Cult have also led to new converts, and TUBBYs fan base now numbers in the thousands. 2006 has been a good year for the group - they took first place at the Worldfolk National Battle of the Bands in Las Vegas, NV in February and were one of the Top 8 finalists on NBC's STAR TOMORROW contest in November. They have also been High Times Featured Unsigned Band, been nominated for three San Diego Music Awards (Best New Artist 2003, Best Rock Album 2004, and Best Pop Album 2005) and had the number one rock song on garageband(march, 2004). You will not find another band in SD that is this truly devoted to gettin' you off that bar stool and onto the dance floor. These guys are the ultimate in funk-deliciousness. Scotts soprano vocals send shivers down your spine. Combine that with the awe-inspiring fingering of Hanafin on bass, the bangin drum of Concannon and the trick fingers of keyboard player MacPherson, and youve got yourself one hell of a Saturday night. Tubby plays frequently around town, so check them out, and while you are there, pick up a copy of their first album Unpredictable Jiggle.

by Amy Hultengren
Tubby is one of those loud, rocking, funky bands that you can see playing all over San Diego. Youve got Dane, belting out his soul on guitar and lead vocals. Then, there is the energetic, flirtatious, funky contagious Matty on the bass who makes you want to get up and dance. Neil is the calm, cool spokesman for the band whose keyboard skills and backing vocals would make Napoleon Dynamite jealous. Nathans a shy romantic type who plays rhythm guitar and does backing vocals. And Billy Ray, well, he is one of the single ones, ladies, and he has more than just mad skills on the drums. How did you get that funk? Influences like favorite guitarist Jimmy Hendrix and the blues of Ella Fitzgerald. Tubby really is a combination of good musicians, who have a familiarity with funk, soul, Motown, energy and attitude. Everyone in the band makes Tubby the number one priority. Tubby came together through Neil, Dane and Matty all meeting and then coming across Billy Ray and Nathan. Tubby got started by doing early shows at the Sandbar and have successfully played there way around San Diego. Tubby fans are very supportive and swooped up all of the goods on the first run of merchandise, which completely sold out. They should have some more goodies out at the end of the month. You can feel Tubbys powerful funky vibe as they really rock the house. Tubby likes to play where they can be loud and make noise. Moondoggies in the summertime, The Coaster Saloon and Surf & Saddle are just a few of the places you might catch them. Ultimate fantasy gigs would include playing in front of a packed house of Tubby fans at the Greek Theatre in LA, Madison Square Garden and the Fillmore in SF. For now, touring California, the US, and abroad is in the works.
