Biography

Founded in the fall of 2005, the Kal Bergendahl Project (KBP) steps into the worlds of vocal R&B, pop, and smooth jazz, creating a unique and interesting blend of music that attracts a wide audience. The group’s sounds are reminiscent of David Sanborn and Kirk Whalum on the jazz side and Norah Jones and John Mayer on the pop side.

Melodic variety is a key element of the KBP’s style, as a live show features pop and soul vocal melodies incorporated with instrumental melodies led by the saxophone, guitar and bass. This variety creates an intriguing musical texture that can be led by any member in the band.

During the past four years KBP has recorded two CD’s (Love Unconditional and Everlasting Life) and performed throughout the southeast Wisconsin area. Some notable performances include; Bastille Days/Jazz in the Park (Milwaukee),
Summer Sizzle (Milwaukee),
Washington Park Jazz (Milwaukee),
Jazz Crawl for the Arts (Plymouth),
Concerts in the Park (Green Lake),
Concert on the Lakefront (Lake Geneva),
U.W. Parkside (Kenosha),
Lakefront Festival of the Arts (Milwaukee),
Jean’s Jazz Series (Racine),
Downtown Summer Concert Series (Winthrop Harbor,Il.).
On November 11th, 2006 the group opened up for Island/Def Jam recording artist Jon McLaughlin at Carthage College (Kenosha). The group also travelled to northern Michigan in the fall of 2007 for An Evening of Dinner & Jazz (Lake City, MI).

“I wanted to have a group which has the ability to have any member musically or vocally lead,” he explains. “Even though I am the leader I pass around the melodies and spotlight to everyone. My purpose is to bring two audiences together, the jazz and pop audience and expose them to the music they may not be as familiar with.”
