Biography

D. Woods discovered her love for performing at an early age while growing up in Springfield, Massachusetts. Woods went on to attended well-known performing arts high school Tri-Cities High School for Visual and Performing Arts in Atlanta, Georgia where she now resides. It was here that D.Woods was further exposed to the art of performing through studying the art of dance in modern contemporary, ballet, West African and Hip Hop. Woods later attend the prestigious The Alvin Ailey School and NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, both in New York City, where she underwent extensive vocal and acting training and has also studied abroad in Havana Cuba. Her love for performing landed her in countless productions across the U.S. and as far as West and South Africa, including several off-broadway theater productions. Woods also stinted as an intern with Spike Lee's 40 Acres and a Mule Production Company.
Woods became a familiar face in the industry touring and appearing in several music videos with major recording artists such as Bow Wow, Lloyd, Avant, Snoop Dogg, Letoya Luckett and Jay-Z as a background dancer. n 2007, Woods made a cameo appearance in the box office smash "Stomp the Yard".
But it was Woods’ time on MTV’s Diddy’s Making the Band 3 that made her a household name. It was here that D. Woods went on to achieve chart-topping and Platinum success with the five-member pop/R&B all girl group sensation Danity Kane. The group’s first self-titled album debuted in late 2006 at #1 on the Billboard charts with the popular single “Showstopper”. The album sold 234,000 units in the first week. Their sophomore album, Welcome to the Dollhouse, debuted with similar success in 2008 at #1 on the Billboard charts again making Danity Kane the first female group to have two #1 album debuts for their first and second albums. It was her powerful vocals that drove hit singles like “RIde For You” and “Damaged”. And it was her colorful personality that brought the flavor to hits such as the single “Showstopper”. Flexing her writing skills, Woods wrote several songs for Danity Kane (“Striptease”, “Secret Place”, “Picture This”,“Flashback”, “Ain’t Going”), as well as penning hits for other artist such as Gorilla Zoe (“You Don’t Know Me”), B5 (“You Don’t Know”) and Young Capone (“Choosing” feat. Mario).
After a highly publicized departure from Danity Kane in 2008, Woods channeled the energy surrounding it all and focused in on her fans. Today she continues to give her fans a glimpse into her own style and artistry. In 2009,Woods released her debut single as a solo artist, “Legalize Me” and recieved rave reviews performing the track on BET's late night sensation The Monique Show. In 2010, D. Woods set out on what would be her greatest accomplishment yet towards solidifying herself as an industry staple with the launch of her own independent label, Woodgrane Entertainment. And in early 2010, Woods released the Lady in the Streets mixtape, a prelude to her forthcoming fulllength
LP, “The Gray Area”.
