Bio
Singer, Song-Juggler, often self-proclaimed, the Original Gangster
from Cleveland, Bushwalla represents the eclectic talents of Billy
“Bushwalla” Galewood. A native of Cleveland, he started performing
musical theater at the early age of 9 and in 1995, Billy set out to
New York City to study theater at the American Musical & Dramatic Academy. While in New York, he supported himself as a street performer incorporating such feats as juggling, magic, object balancing, and fire-breathing.
Now after spending 6 years in Los Angeles and 4 years in San
Diego, Bushwalla’s sound is a unique blend of folk, freestyle, acoustic hip-hop with a soul deeply rooted in authenticity and optimism.
His writing talents came into being after notably co-writing
Jason Mraz’s debut platinum album, Waiting For My Rocket
to Come and sophomore release Mr. A-Z.
Bushwalla’s debut EP release Ghetto Blaster (produced by Spooner Oldham) is cherished
by fans worldwide and highly acclaimed in the Southern California media and radio circuit.
There full-length album Autodidactical Freestyle &
Radical, released in March of 2008, has been selling at a rapid rate with fantastic reviews on iTunes.
His latest Album "The man who invented the sky" released on 2010 is loosely based of his fathers u.f.o. experiences and features legends Teenie Hodges and Spooner Oldham
along with Pigeon John, Rebeca Taylor(Slow Club) and the Groove Line Horns(Jason Mraz Band)
Bushwalla is also known for his unique music videos/documentaries
that have accumulated thousands of plays on youtube. Bushwalla and his “1-2-3 Band” experiment with an improvisational party-type atmosphere, captivating audiences week after week.
His shows range from solo shows, trio, and full band performances.
