"Unsigned Band of the Month"

The Midwest has long been a hotbed for successful rap artists, but Shrub's fusion of rap, reggae, and rock brings a whole new flavor to the scene.

Shrub's debut EP, Señorita, is quickly setting this Columbus, Ohio-based artist apart from the pack. From the ganja-induced club anthem "We Wanna Smoke," to the dancehall banger "Come And Get It," to a much more emotional side on "Cherries,” Shrub has tapped into a unique and raw sound all his own.

The EP features guest appearances by DJ Rasta Root (DJ for Phife Dawg and Chip Fu of the Fu-Schnickens), Lyrical (artist/producer for Myrical Records), and Jenny Flory (singer/songwriter from the Wonder Twin Powers). Additionally, Opie Ortiz (from the Long Beach Dub Allstars) created the sick album artwork for Señorita.

Rumors are swirling that Shrub is currently working with reggae producer Dubmatix on a three-song dub remix companion album to Señorita. Stay tuned for big things. - High Times Magazine

"Trifecta - Three Shows With Buzz"

You’ve never heard of Shrub — or have you? Maybe you caught the reggae group at Ruby Tuesday’s on St. Paddy’s Day. Or maybe you’re part of its ever-growing online following?

Shrub’s show announcements generally include “sticky” and “green” references. Shrub’s songwriting formula, per its Facebook page, is simply: “6 blunts + a pen + a pad + a beat = new tunes.”

And yet Columbus’s corn-fed four-piece features artwork by Orange County tattooist and Sublime logoist Opie Ortiz on its debut EP, Senorita. The Sublime influence is anything but subtle with Shrub. The band still has a minute before it’s comfy making music minus Rasta clichés, but its vocalist is strong, and its funky rhythm section is promising in online vids. Expect Shrub to hit big..." - The Other Paper

Bio

Hailing from Columbus, Ohio, the seven piece "Reggae / Rap / Rock" fusion, Shrub, has been rapidly gaining momentum and building a solid national fan base since being voted by readers as High Times Magazines Unsigned Band of the Month in September of 2010.

Recently, Shrub released their first full length album, Highceratops, which debuted in the Top 10 on the iTunes Reggae Charts. The album features guest appearances by C-Money from Slightly Stoopid, Dubmatix, and Kimberly Freeman from One-Eyed Doll.

The band garners comparisons to artists like: Sublime, The Dirty Heads, Atmosphere, Gym Class Heroes, and G. Love, but Shrub maintains an innately unique and raw sound all their own. With the addition of new guitar player, Kevin Oliver, former member of the world's funkiest band, Parliament/Funkadelic (George Clinton), Shrub's sound has now quickly become full-grown.
